Rodrick found his gift early on in his childhood, giving him a longer time to master it. His gift is controlling a purple substance that is his mucus (which is usually collecting around his pearl). It sounds gross, and it is, but it's actually really painful when you breath it in. It not only causes physical aching but it can suffocate someone and even poison someone.
Nobody really knows why his spit and mucus are this odd color/substance, but as a result, he often drools.

Rodrick lived through the battle with very serious injuries and is now looked down upon by many. He's a self-proclaimed scientist.
