Noctisse was hatched into a family of powerful mages, and trained from youth to be a defender of arcane secrets. Her family was strict, prioritizing training over love, and their expectations of her were particularly high. Her talent was apparent from a very young age, her control over magic overwhelming from the start. But Noctisse wasn't born with the heart of a protector: she was born with the heart of a conqueror. She took more interest in how to weave magic into the strokes of a sword than defensive runes, and cared little for defending the lives of the nobles her family had watched for centuries. The Civari family had been the charges of Noctisse's family for centuries. Their raw power was unmatched, but they had little to no control, making them targets for cruel minds seeking to capture that raw energy and shape it to their own purposes. The last thing the Civaris expected was a rebellion from within. Noctisse drew in one of their youngest daughters, who thought herself very much in love, rather than a tool for Noctisse's purposes. Once the pair were joined, everything changed. Noctisse's followers slaughtered the rest of the family, leaving the daughter the sole survivor-- and Noctisse's pawn. By sapping her partner's energy, she was able to achieve magics beyond her wildest imagination, and with nobody left in her life except Noctisse, the daughter had no choice but to follow her love-turned-enemy and assist in those ventures. They left the arcane lands where their reputations preceded them and went somewhere new, somewhere to start fresh... somewhere to dominate all over again. Luma's initial love for Noctisse eroded quickly upon the realization that there was a very dark side to the mage, and while she treats the woman with suspicion, Noctisse hasn't yet done anything to directly earn ire. Noctisse's intelligence and patience are critical when it comes to takeovers, and she's biding her time to unleash a coup past Luma's wildest expectations. She just needs to wait for the right situation to arise... |
