Happenstance

Somewhat fussy and maybe even at times a bit stuffy, Happenstance is nonetheless eager to please. Because of his mimicking nature, he memorizes stories, songs, and whole scripts with ease, and is a performer at heart. He loves playacting or any form of performance art, and is rather clever at it.

Happenstance's Naming Story:

Legend and Starchase were out hunting mice under the pebbles. They were not supposed to be this far from the lair without an older dragon along, but sneaking out for adventure seemed like an even more attractive reward than a snack for their growing and ever-hungry bellies. Soon they forgot their quest entirely and started racing each other instead. Starchase pulled into an early lead, executing a sharp turn around a rock.

“Oof!” he grunted as he tripped over a very odd-looking stone.

“What is that thing?” Legend said as he came panting up to his friend.

Starchase sniffed it and gave it a poke with his nose. “It's an egg! We're in big trouble now! What do we do?”

Legend sat heavily. “Well, we can't just leave it here. We're Clan Troubadour dragons, it's our duty to shelter anyone who crosses our path. If we leave it here, it'll die, and I'm not having that on my conscience.”

Starchase snorted. “DUH. An egg's helpless, we gotta take it home. But now they're gonna know we snuck out!”

Legend sighed. “Well, I guess we take turns carrying it.”

As luck would have it, their clan was a little too amazed by a foundling egg to give them more than a brief lecture about predators and getting lost. They made a nest and took turns caring for it. Soon, a tiny dragon of a type none of the others had ever seen before hatched out.

“What a remarkable happenstance,” Gemstone murmured.

The name stuck.
