An icy wind settled over the clan, digging into the skin and bones of every dragon who lived there. Huddling closer together in their slumber, not a single soul would think something is amiss.

Legends almost forgotten spoke of a king gone mad, a monarch locked away for everyone’s good. Under his blinding gaze crops would never grow, the land stagnated in an icy prison. Locked in time. Some brave souls of the clan stood up to him, and with the help of his trusted knight turned revolutionary, they locked the mad king away in the mountains. Ever after, the peaks of the mountains were chilled to their core, through the king’s rage, and snow could be found there year-round.

There was more truth than the clan knew in these words. The ancient knight stirred from his slumber, feeling the chill in his bones. Something was terribly, terribly wrong. Nothing could stay locked away forever, could it?

Roaring down from the mountaintops, Aranos' shackles groaned against his struggles. He was so close to his freedom, freedom he must have spent centuries now without. The sound of metal giving way filled his icy crypt, the chains clattered to the ground and finally laid still. There was no more struggle to be had here, and the ice bowed to his will once more, falling out of his path.

He gestured harshly, commanding the ice into carving out a crevice to exit his prison, slowly working his way out of the walls he had been forced into all those years ago. His claws scratched against the ground to steady himself, it was finally time. He stepped outside.

The sun was just rising over the horizon, and he stretched his wings out to bask in the feeling of the sun on his skin and scales. Clinking and clattering followed his every move, chains still hanging off Aranos' every limb; not that he cared to remove them, he had far more important things to deal with.... starting with that traitor of a Knight Captain.

Although. Perhaps that could wait until after he enjoyed the sun just a little longer.

After his long journey down from his former prison, Aranos stood at the entrance of his old kingdom's territory.... his old clan. His castle still stood, although it was no longer cold and completely forbidden to the residents; dragons mulled around the courtyard and the gates freely, enjoying the bright day. He glared, it was hard not to notice his brilliant eyes and, well, terrifying appearance from anywhere in the settlement even as he simply stood at the gates.

A pearlcatcher strolled over, followed lazily by a couple butterflies from the garden she had been tending. Aranos noted however that a guard stood a couple metres behind her, and snorted indignantly. The cold air released freezing into frost on the nearby bushes leaves. She looked unimpressed, and spoke up as such when she reached him, "Who on Sornieth do you think you are? You come in here, ruin my beautiful hedges, and trample my garden!" She gestured accusingly behind him.

Aranos turned around. There were some crushed roses in his wake, along with his usual frozen footprints in the soil. What was this dragon's problem? These were insignificant plants, and he spoke up, gruffly, "I don't think you know of whom you speak to."

She just stared at him for a few seconds incredulously, before turning away and heading for the castle.... his castle. He followed behind her.

Bandit, The King's Knight
A lot had changed in Aranos’ centuries of absence, this much was obvious. The welcoming warmth of what used to be his frozen unchanging domain was getting under his scales. He walked into his castle unhindered by the presumably ceremonial guard, making a straight line for his throne. He had to know who sat upon it, and so help whichever dragon it was taking what was his.

The heavy throne room doors swung open, and Aranos saw first a figure he didn’t quite recognize. A guardian sat at a table in front of the empty throne, surrounded by a soft swirling breeze. The second figure however… it was the traitorous knight, the one who had the nerve to rise up against him all those years ago. The throne lay abandoned behind the two, as they turned their heads to see who interrupted their talks.

The guardian sat still, observing Aranos quietly. Bandit, however, jumped up instantly at the ready for an attack. He landed in front of the former king, sword at the ready to attack or defend, with a pure hatred in his eyes and a growl in his throat. Aranos simply laughed, “You think so lowly of me after all these years to think I would attack so carelessly?” The knight did not move, and he continued, “I am interested though, to learn who you have invited into my throne in my involuntary absence, traitor.” The two stood at odds for what felt like almost an eternity until the guardian spoke up, her voice echoing through the hall carried on the wind that surrounded her, “Quiet, young ones. This is no way to settle an argument.

Thyla, and Unnamed The Bloodborn
The tundra stood quiet, a serene night amongst the quiet of the icy wasteland. It was not often Aranos came to the land of ice, having been born himself in the plains of the light. Sometimes, he came here to ponder many things and keep to himself. Tonight, however, he was not alone.

The crunch of snow under heavy feet came from behind him, and he whipped around, face to face with an Emperor. The beast had 12 heads, and stood giant even when compared to his incredibly large stature. One head in particular looked down at him, with a dark, soulless icy gaze. It snorted in anger, and Aranos realized that this tundra forest had been claimed as this…. monster’s territory. He knew there was only one way out now, Aranos engaged in a mighty battle with the emperor, and their combined powers created life in the snow below. A brief pause was had after a while, and neither side seemed ready to give in. The fight was long from over.

The two beasts clashed once again in the icy darkness, silhouetted by the moon and the stars above them in the sky. The first 3 eggs created in the blasts of the battle glowed softly in the cold night and crackled underneath Aranos and Oriethyia’s claws. Over and over they attacked and clawed at the other, until one final blast rang out, and an unfathomable roar unleashed from the Emperor, wounded for the first time in a very very long time. The blood, if you can call it that, dripped onto the ice and snow as Aranos stood on guard. He waited for another blow, but it never came. The monstrous creature was gone without a trace, giving Aranos time to exhale and take in his surroundings.

3 eggs sat in the snow under his feet, glistening with a soft light. 2 more lay where the Emperor had stood, coated in a thin frozen layer of blood. They were his responsibility now. Three baby imperials, born not from eggs, but from power. Two more created from blood and decay.
