Brigid was always alone, even when they found themselves among others. Born a nocturne of fire; she was looked upon with indifference from their newfound clan despite her status as a parentless orphan. They provided for their basic needs and protected her while she was young however, it was all too clear that they expected her to be gone not long after she reached adulthood. The young nocturne filled the emptiness and uncertainty they felt with a fascination towards metalworks. Swords, battle talons, armor; anything they could get their claws on fueled something within them they could not understand. Perhaps it was simply the calling of their element, but regardless they knew that someday, they would be a metalsmith and forge the finest wares from the flames she controlled. Her fantasizes were the only thing that kept her going day by day. Her clan seemed determined to foist them off on someone else and even if they failed, they had no intention of aiding them towards their future aspirations. To the clan, they were a burden. A burden with their head lost in the flames. It was during one of the usual trips to the market (they often tried to sell them off whenever they went) that Brigid first caught a whiff of the strong odor of hot steel and soot that they dreamed of every night. A fire wildclaw stumbling along after a much louder imperial, weighed down by the portable smelter that they carried on their wings. A blacksmith without a doubt. Brigid rushed away from those they accompanied, immediately pleading the startled dragon to give them a chance. They wanted an apprenticeship, but would be willing to simply gather coals or clean up around the forge. Anything would do, just as long as they could begin learning more about the craft they admired. Kadeziah ever the shy and uncertain dragon was... overwhelmed to say the least by the strange young nocturne's sudden request, and the wyrm that was with her clearly did not have the patience to deal with the interruption of their shopping trip. Brigid can only guess what exactly it was that led to Antheia tossing over money to their guardian for their purchasing fee, though Kadeziah had once mentioned how offput they had been by the look in their clanmates eyes. Brigid's apprenticeship within the forge of clan Starfall began without any fanfare, but to Brigid; it was as if the world was finally aligned in their favor. Kadeziah was a patient and kind mentor even with Brigid's endless enthusiasm and excitement. Her unexpected apprentice was still always made to feel welcome and at home, no matter how much they stressed the poor wildclaw. Everything seemed to be perfect for Brigid. Everything... should have been perfect. Brigid was always alone, even when they found themselves among others. They... couldn't really explain the feeling they had. They were on their way to achieving their dreams; claws constantly in contact with metals and coal and surrounded by the hot scent of the forge and embers to the point it stuck to their scales. They had the best mentor they could've hoped for and constantly surrounded by far more positivity and support from their newfound clanmates. The excavation team always stored away a bit of rare metal for them to practice on, the younger dragons of the clan welcomed her with open arms into their social circles, hell she even got to craft many of the tools the clan actively used! Yet... there was something.... the call of the fire told them so. "Have you considered taking some time away? Leaving the clan momentarily for some... soul searching perhaps?" Brigid had immediately shot Albedo a withering glare. The clan archivist seemed to always find time in his neverendingly busy schedule to listen to the nocture's concerns, however that didn't mean they liked what he had to say. Though his words always seemed to carry wisdom beyond his age, Brigid couldn't imagine leaving their apprenticeship behind just because of some silly feelings. "If it's causing you this much distress, is it really that silly?" ...Brigid did not like Albedo in the slightest. Kadeziah was all to eager to help get together the basic supplies for Brigid's short wandering, though neither quite knew when they'd return. The call of the fire was strong... and they knew they had to follow no matter where it led. The Shifting Expanse echoed the call of earth and thunder... and the flames didn't hesitate to answer. Brigid found themselves reborn in a new form before a drake that seemed to mirror their own metallic appearance. The child of fire had finally found the child of earth and welcomed him eagerly with an outstretched claw. All they knew was... Vasudhara would be perfect for purifying metals before they were forged. |
