Biography
Pronouns: They/Them (Keem: He/him, Kish: He/Him)
Role: Bonecarver
Keem’s tale is a sad one. Born in the Flintlock fumaroles, Keem and Kish were always of a mind with each other, their bond especially strong. It was a matter of course that they spoke in unison, rarely quarreled, and loved each other dearly. They showed an early artistic aptitude and would travel far and wide searching for inspiration for their pieces (the mediums of which varied, but their absolute favorite was sculpture). With their combined six eyes always searching for the perfect subject, they occasionally forgot that they could be seen in return, and one tragic day they ventured far too close to the Forbidden Portal, drawn by the hypnotic glow.
No experienced dragons fighting nearby noticed them in time, nor could they divert themselves quickly enough to help. KeemKish were attacked by an Abberant Chacma and brutally maimed. When they were finally dragged away and tended to, it became clear only one head could be saved, and so Keem awoke to find he had lost half of his soul, and more than half of his mind.
Unable to deal with the loss of Kish, Keem withdrew into denial and dilusion, refusing to acknowledge the traumatic event ever occurred. He fashioned his other half a new head of dyed leather and wool, and reassured it that all would be well again. Unnerved by his behavior, his rescuers eventually coaxed him away to find a new clan to call home, and so Keem (and the puppet he would introduce as Kish) wandered the land once again.
After many false starts and cold shoulders, Keem landed in a small clearing on the border of the windswept plateau and Scarred Wasteland to confer with Kish about their next move, when they were happened upon by a small white fey out hunting. Introducing herself as Peregrine she confessed she had been watching them since they had first flown in, and if they were looking for somewhere to rest a while, she knew an excellent place. Peregrine did not even blink when introduced to Kish, bowing as respectfully as she had to Keem.
And so KeemKish lives in Silverslick Sanctuary, at least for now, reacquainting themselves with companionship and stability. They occupy their time and contribute to the Clan’s stores through their art, gathering bones and carving graceful designs to be sold or gifted. They also carve the great bones that make up the scaffolding of the grand subterranean lair, creating beauty where there was once just utility. Keem and Kish still talk often, laughing at private jokes or reminiscing on their travels, and if any member of the sanctuary notices Keem listening carefully to the silent pauses in the one sided conversation they keep their thoughts to themselves, for who are they to judge. Few who wind up at the Sanctuary arrive unblemished.
