"we're the chemists who found the formula to make your heart swell and burst"

Potash Peach

In her youth, Miko was equal parts athlete and chemist. She won several boxing tournaments within the Shadow territory during her college years. Later on, her hours in the lab and in front of conference mics earned her plenty of notoriety in the scientific community. All this brought in enough cash to support an early retirement. Now she's living the dream as the owner of The Tipsy Whisker, a bar dedicated to local ingredients and classics with a twist. This is her bible.

It turns out that running a restaurant in a tiny clearing inside a haunted wood... isn't terribly time-consuming. Miko dedicates the rest of her time to the Tabemono clan community. As the head of the clan's Coli team, she takes Phyll and Chlora with her to hunt down food and materials; on her own, she preps pairs of fodder for exaltation. Every weekend, Miko teaches free boxing and martial arts classes. She also lends her skills to Kili's clan events, helping set up and taking part in the more physically demanding demonstrations.

Levelheaded and fun-loving, Sumi makes both an excellent friend and small business owner. She is quick to cut off patrons (most often fellow clanmates) who have clearly had enough to drink. There's always a few cases of tonic water on hand for non-drinkers and for spicing up the lemonades she makes for hatchlings.

Rogue is Miko's sunshine—which is pretty odd, considering his near-constant frown. They share a bond that doesn't need words. Equally near and dear to Sumi's heart is their son Milo. Raising him hasn't been easy, but as she puts it, "I have two children: this here bar and my boy Milo. One of 'em took my whole life to raise, one of 'em took my whole heart, and for both I'd do it all again."

[ part 1 ]
oo A stranger watching her, unblinkingly, while she gathers herbs—that's fine. That stranger trying to take anything, on the other hand, is absolutely not.

"I'm sure," Miko purrs, "you're an honest fellow." She lets a note of danger underscore her tone, as if the near bone-shattering blow she'd just administered wasn't warning enough. The stranger withdraws their paw with a scowl, rubbing it against a bed of grasses. Their gaze remains fixed on her pile of...She looks down. A sprig of tansy rests atop a pile of Yarrow, mis-sorted.

"Oh." Miko corrects the error. The stranger smirks. How very interesting, Miko thinks. She takes a moment to look them over. They don't strike her as a medic or chef. With their sleek olive hood and fingerless gloves, they look more like a smuggler—an assassin, even. The stranger fidgets under her scrutiny, furling and unfurling their wings. She calls out to them as they turn to leave.

"Windy, what is it they call you?"

The stranger's eyes, the color of shallow creek water, narrow to slits. Without answering, they flap open their wings and vanish into the leaves above.

Pelagas Feathers

Miko runs into this smart-mouthed (smart-eyed?) stranger several times in the coming seasons. Every meeting is filled with eyerolls and increasingly inane nicknames. Eventually Miko settles on the original "Windy." It suits him, she says, and he sighs. He, too, comes to regard her with grudging fondness. He brings her berries she's only ever heard of. He laughs at her stories.
Pelagas Feathers

Sunlight streams through the overhanging leaves, pressing patterns into her skin. Her birth clan be damned, Miko thinks, grinning up at the light. This is her favorite weather. She's just beginning to lay out her piles when his familiar footsteps approach. Looking up, what she sees is anything but familiar. Her friend's eyes are lifeless. His well-kept cape is now threadbare. His pack, half-filled, looks stuffed with belongings instead of leaves. It looks as though he's been wandering for months.

Miko breaks the silence. "Windy?"

The dragon grunts. He claws a word into the dirt between them, circling it once before stepping back to let her see. Rogue, it reads. His eyes bore into her.

She understands.

"Very well," she says, keeping her tone matter-of-fact. "Well, Rogue. Why don't you help me pack these up?" He does. It is the first time they take the same path out of the brush.
