.. Spinel was given to Clan Mirage as an allegiance gift, to help boost their ranks in their early days. She was mostly left alone to amuse herself, and bonded strongly with Dulcet, who was already present in the clan at her arrival, and Achenar, who joined them shortly afterwards. The three graduated from playmates to scouts for the reclusive clan, learning rapidly about the world outside the Black Bellows, and when Clan Mirage began to fragment they knew to stay together and keep moving. Offering to accompany the newly-titled diplomat Fletcher gave them a good opportunity to do just that.

Spinel's small size and preference for dainty fashions belies a feisty, competitive nature. Of the mated trio, she's the quickest to bite back after an insult, and the scrappiest fighter.

She picks up mannerisms from others and develops enthusiasm for their actions and interests very quickly, a habit that helped her get along with the theatrical Achenar in his even more dramatic youth. It also helps her fit in in the foreign locales the scouts visit, where Spinel leaps right into learning the local customs and languages.
