Biography
Deep in the Fortress of Ends, past the howling winds and relentless hailstorms, there lies an icecap. Unassuming on the surface, you wouldn’t suspect a thing just looking at it, but venture farther and you’ll find that underneath that bleak and barren landscape is an entire hidden world.
True to secret locations, it’s not easy to find, and quite difficult to get to, but let it not be said that the tedious journey warrants no reward. In that little corner of the world, under what’s possibly the coldest part of Sornieth, is a lush, green jungle, where the air is warm, and there’s no danger of icicles growing on too-stagnant wings.
The very first settlers, a Mirror and a Tundra, were Arcane dragons who had sensed the overflow of magic from under the ice. They set forth to investigate and, when they found a place they might be able to call home, decided to settle, if only for a while.
Of course, when they realized that the jungle was home to a variety of flora and fauna that could not be found elsewhere, they decided to plant roots, both literally and figuratively. Rapier and Serval started a mail-order company, specializing in all things weird and wonderful. Rare herbs, magic ingredients, that rare item you need to finish a potion, you name it, they’ve got it.
Soon after they opened their business, strangers started wandering in, fascinated with the tropical atmosphere under that sheet of ice. With the jungle being rather isolated, far away from the happenings of the rest of the world, most of the strangers it attracted were runaways, and even criminals who wanted nothing more than to forget their pasts.
With the high levels of magic surrounding them, some of these newcomers started developing magic of their own. Some others started to mutate. Yet, even this wasn’t enough to drive those stragglers away. After finding jobs with the mail-order service, these dragons were just happy to have somewhere safe to be after being on the run for so long.
Most new faces, upon settling in the jungle, give themselves new names, a way to escape from their previous life, where they had perhaps made more than a few enemies. New hatchlings, should they decide to leave, pick a new name upon their departure, so that the safety and privacy of the dragons who stay aren’t compromised.
Farther into the jungle, away from the hustle and bustle, rumour has it that there are ancient beings, eldritch horrors who lurk in the darkness. So far, they’ve coexisted peacefully with the dragons who live there, so no one has really gone poking, lest they uncover something they don’t want to.
It’s been a long time since Rapier and Serval settled under the ice. By now they’re barely sentient, completely feral, and can’t even remember their own names, much less why they’re under the ice in the first place. But the jungle thrives, like it always has, and there are plenty of new faces to keep the clan alive.
