Of Ice And Lightning

______ The skies are unforgiving masters.

Snow whips about with vicious power, the cold biting deep and unforgiving, thousands of icy needles, slow and sure killers. The heavens darken, descend in swirling vapor, pitch darkness interrupted by the flashes of light that precede each crash of thunder. The storm has come in force since before the break of dawn, and it only grows stronger with every hour, an ever-changing tempest of color and noise, rain pelt, hail, wind. Lightning strikes with furious purpose, crackling along the frigid, merciless ice covering the ground.

Amidst the hail and the thunder, where no sane dragon would dare go, two figures dance. Their wings beat to the rhythm of the pounding storm, bodies a blur as they weave through the clouds, in perfect, breathless synchrony.

When the tempest passes and daylight breaks, they will each go back to their daily lives and occupations, and won’t speak their feelings out loud. But for now, the blizzard rages still, and the moment stretches into eternity.
