Biography
"Thou wouldst learn the lost secrets I hold...? Then first, thou must prove thy worth!"
The thirteen gods are siblings who were sired by Orsa and Finis. After the death of the former and the disappearance of the latter, they would continue the task of shaping the world, and thus Orsterra (the world) was born.
Approximately 1,600 years prior to the events of Octopath Traveler, Galdera attempted to seize the power of the gods for himself. The battle that ensued was concluded when Aelfric brought the Sacred Flame from the heavens and sealed Galdera away in the afterworld. However, Galdera had created a daughter, Lyblac, who has been working to free him from his prison beyond the Gate of Finis ever since escaping it herself. Lyblac's machinations behind the scenes play a part in all eight of the playable travelers' stories in Octopath Traveler.
Time before the current events of Octopath Traveler, Finis turned 8 Gods into Divine Rings in an attempt to revive his spouse, but he ended scattering seven of them in Orsterra to see how humanity would use their power upon finding them. Seeing them succumbing to their desires for wealth, power and fame, he would seek for a person to retrieve the rings by giving them the Cleric's Ring.
With the exception of Galdera, each god will bestow a class to the player by visiting their related Shrine. However, the four gods who teach the secret classes must be defeated in battle before the class is bestowed. All five gods who physically appear in the game, including Galdera, are shown to wear masks.
