“Uhhh Sunburst?” Rowan said hesitantly. “Come over here, I found something”

“Is it meat?” Sunburst asked cheerfully. An influx of new hatchlings would be in the den soon, so Kaminari had assigned everyone extra food gathering tasks. Marjoram and Fiore were in charge of herbs by default, so he and Rowan usually took over hunting. Sunburst himself didn’t eat meat, but he liked seeing everyone else eating it happily.

“Nope.. it’s a hatchling.” Rowan said in confusion. “He must have wandered over here from the plague region.”

“OOOOOH a hatchling!!” Sunburst rushed over. “How’d you get over here little guy?”

The little wildclaw flailed his arms and croaked a bit. He was hardly a day old, and probably couldn’t talk yet.

“He doesn’t look very much like a plague dragon.” Rowan said with curiosity.

“He smells like.. honey? Honey and flowers” Sunburst said cheerfully. “And look, he’s got a bunch of flowers stuck to his tail”

“Do you want us to help you find your lair?” Rowan asked. The little wildclaw flailed harder and shook its head vigorously. His croaking noises sounded vaguely like “Get me out of there”

“We HAVE to keep him.” Sunburst said, picking up the little wildclaw and whirling him around in the air. “I’ve always wanted a little brother, don’t we look like brothers Rowan?”

“Not at all.” Rowan laughed. He tried to think of what Kaminari would say. Or what his MOM would say. But well, whatever they said, he was sure he could win them over. And Sunburst was already clearly attached.

“I’ll call you… donut, or jelly, or hmm.. Honeyclaw? You are going to love Uncle Fiore, he has sooo many flowers.” The little wildclaw was already smiling at Sunburst. Rowan sighed and smiled too. “Alright let’s bring him home. Aunt Marjoram will help clean him up.”
