R Y D I A N
first clan mother -- elder -- scribe __________________________________________ In a time of wandering tribes, great dragons took to the seas in a quest for homeland and territories to call their own. In this quest, a band of wandering Guardians swam through the water territories of the Tidelord, taking shelter in the shallows during the nights and diving deep into the depths of the ocean during the day. During this time, several nest-mothers of the wandering tribe had clutches of their own that were carried with them in carefully crafted fabrics that were less likely to tear. However, and is the exception to these rules, one nest-mother lost an egg during the journey, and from this abandoned egg hatched a small female Guardian. Calling herself Rydian, she began her own quest of founding a tribe of her own, and to this day is a well-known elder of the now established Sea Song Tribe. |
Firstborn of her tribe, Rydian is in her prime and full of life. However, she was young, shy, and unable to take control of the tribe as demanded from her in her role as the clan-mother while she was still young enough to be considered a hatchling. After maturing from hatchling to dragon, she, like all others of her species, embarked on The Search for a charge of her own, leaving the tribe in the capable claws of her elder, Ukhai.
Since leaving the tribe, Rydian has grown in herself, becoming more confident in her abilities, and has even found her own charge in the snowfall elk that she rescued in the Plaguebringer's territories. Perhaps one day, she will return to claim her position as clan-mother, but for now she is content to scribe the tribe's legacy, collaborating with the tale-weaver from time to time. first companion Snowfall Elk second companion Wavebreak Snarler |
Many things have brought her home.
It has been many years since she has travelled among her territories, the ones that she claimed so many seasons ago when she was naught but a frightened hatchling with little idea on how to protect her tribe. Hers, not Ukhai's, though at the time she had thought it best to leave their care with the small shadow-born drake. She is older now, world-worn and wise in the ways of the others. She has seen many of the other territories of the deities, been taken into many clans- both friend and foe, she might recall- and written stories. Along the way, she found herself, forged by fire and hardship. Had changed herself in the way that only few blessed with the knowledge of the gods were privy to. Her new form is long, sleek, graceful. Gentler, in some ways. Harsher in others. The winds of the plains still call to her, on some level. She had been travelling with them for several seasons when the urge to return to her kin rose. Nomads had been kind enough to point her through the safest route before continuing themselves, their hearts light as the skies they lived in. |
It would not be such a bad thing, she thinks, to return there someday.
She looks out over the rippling waters, feeling the song of home rumbling through her like a mighty wave. This is where she belongs. This is what she has missed since she had left it. The skies above are clear, their blue hue offset by the occasional cloud. She will miss the sky, she thinks, for it has been her constant companion for all these years. Will miss it as surely as if she were to lose a wing or limb. But she has set her sights down below, in the sheltered caverns of the tribe, where life continues on, unawares of her return. Her claws dip into the shallows, a pleased rumble rolling through her at the familiarity of the water running over her flesh, her claws. Her cloths and trinkets are all warded by the instinctive water magiks she carries within her chest, she muses as she steps carefully further into the lapping water. Will her nest-mate Matvei recognize her, changed as she is? Her comrades, friends, those she would call kin? Her eyes slip closed as the water engulfs her, and when she opens them again all she knows are the landmarks that point her home. |
