Are we all feeling lucky?

❝ I cannot believe I am actually having to say this, but 'no weapons' does mean 'no weapons'. No teeth, no breath weapons, no oversized magical pets that wish to destroy my couches. None of that. You are here to improve yourselves, not kill each other. ❞

The English word love comes from the Old English word lufu, meaning deep affection. The word lufu is linked to the Old Frisian word luve, Old German luba and the Gothic lubo. The Indo-European root comes from the Latin lubet meaning pleasant, and lubido meaning desire.

❏.SEVENS

...And yet, his ID is quite remarkable. Lufu hides seven sevens here; it's a feat as lucky and impressive as the nine nines.

One, two, three, four: 7, 7, 7, 7. They are listed first, because they are simply the first; the first four digits in Lufu's ID. These are the source of his power, combined with his parentage; a jackpot that extends beyond what was thought possible.

The fifth seven comes from attempts to divide. Dividing 7/7/7/7 seems fruitless, as one only gets 1. And 8/2 only yeilds a 4. 1/4 finally yields 0.25, but at the moment it seems the number has been broken, it returns whole and at its most powerful: 5+2 is 7.

Then comes six, one less than seven, so the sixth a seven born of negatives: 7-7-7-7-8-2-1-0 = -25. 5+2 = 7. Even in a dark time, there is always a kindness to spare.

The seventh seven, most special of them all, is the seven of multiples. We'll have to leave off the 0 here, but 7*7*7*7*8*2*1 = 38416.
3*8*4*1*6 = 576. 5*7*6 = 210. Leave off the 0 again; 21 is simply three sevens. A seven of multiples indeed; or should we say, multiple sevens.

❏.ORIGINS

"There comes a time in many dragons' lives when they feel unsatisfied; perhaps in their genes, or colours."

Ultimemer has to marvel at his courage, honestly. This Lufu guy isn't from the clan, or even from Lightning territory. He's big even by Imperial standards, and the clan's a bunch of meatheads who have a problem with anyone bigger than them. There should really be a brawl going on by now.

And yet, when Lufu speaks, everyone listens. They're judging words, but not when he says them; only a firm kindness radiates from him.

"For too long, you all have fought and bickered over who gets which scroll. You have all been unsatisfied. Nobody wins."

That would surely be insulting coming from anyone else, but the only response Lufu gets is gentle murmurs. Understanding. Dragons bow their heads, or nod along. He radiates charisma, but not the dangerous kind that might make McBro twitch. He's simply too kind for that sort of thing.

"I bring you a solution, if... if you would all like it." A little nervousness there. He's tried this somewhere else before, and they did not like it. Lufu takes a breath, already misting in the early morning heat of the desert. An ice dragon, all they way out here. "A solution where everybody could be a winner."

Ultimemer blinks. "Like a casino?"

Lufu pauses, and everyone hangs on his answer. No matter what he says, he's going to be welcomed here. Everyone loves him already, Ultimemer can feel it.

"Exactly like a casino."

..................................................

And that is how the clan ended up building a magical casino to 'decide' who might get what genes, and in what order. Play a game, decide your fate by winning or losing, all that nonsense. Of course, like all casinos, it's quite rigged, every winner the most deserving; but as everyone wins eventually, nobody particularly minds.

And indeed, everyone does win. Lufu makes sure of it! Not only is he fair, but he's kind, and he's loved by pretty much every member of the clan for that reason. Once, he made the mistake of saying that he collected dice; now he has a hoard of dice twice as big as he is, a veritable tower that he can actually sleep inside. (He likes the glow-in-the-dark ones the most, and the little resin ones with the flowers inside.)

Lufu's also a lucky dragon, in every sense of the term. He appeared right when he was needed the most, and is considered a lucky charm in his own right. Though nobody is quite certain on whether or not he can actually bend chance to his will, a scatterscroll from Lufu or a Lufu-blessed nest is believed luckier than most. Lucky and loved, that's Lufu for you.

Lufu owes his stunning looks and good luck to his excellent lineage. He'll tell anyone who'll hear him out, though it's admittedly to do with those number things the clan seems a bit allergic to - he comes from Polvorón, the Progenitor, a dragon of legendary power, and Izhantayu, rumoured to be the sixty-ninth dragon ever. Lufu takes his heritage quite seriously; he believes his formal way of speaking to be the best way to respect his parents, and has even banned all swears in the casino. (Indeed, he has a swear jar.)

Lufu's own ID is 77778210, which doesn't seem terribly special. Dragons are quite welcome to tell this to his face; he will only laugh, good-naturedly, and offer whoever said it another roll of the dice.
