____"It was years before anyone realized what was happening. We know Mulberry was the first, and then maybe Saporito or Edison... No one can recall whether they came at the same time or not. Then Arrowhead was born, and at that point it seemed mostly a coincidence... but come Wavecrest 2022, suddenly they came and came and came. And at that point, it no longer could be ignored. Something was drawing them here, into the Star Wood. But why? And how?

____"The Colorfully Called, they decided on. No one rightfully knew what was going on, but the Watch of the Arcane decided it would be best to formally split the clans. Since most of the Called were newcomers anyway, this was largely accepted; there was no need for poor relations, but the influx of members made logistics difficult on the Watch. It was decided that the clans would be allies, and would share most of the territory the Watch had previously resided over alone.

____"Since then, we've gleaned a little more about this unusual phenomena. It does appear to have a variety of particular qualities that differentiate it from more mundane instances of mono-color dragons.

____"For one, no two dragons can coexist of the same shade. Similar shades, yes; but if a dragon of the exact same hue as one already here were to stumble on the village, one of the two would soon leave. This appears to happen even if the dragons are not even yet aware of the other's presence.

____"Secondly, dragons do appear to be able to leave, once they've first made contact. But all the dragons who remain Called, so to speak, have a firm conviction that they will return. Some leave for weeks, other for months-- but they do come back, so long as they haven't been replaced, as mentioned previously.

____"Thirdly-- and this hasn't been tested, but in speaking with the Called, it does appear to be fairly consistent-- it doesn't really appear to be tied to the community. Rather, it seems to be tied to some... magical confluence in the area. The Called generally say they would rather stay here even if everyone else moved away, even despite the difficulties of eking it out on their own. And for some of them, that would be quite difficult! The Watch of the Arcane provides a great bulk of the physical protection available to our clans...

____"Fourth (and this is a new observation) but it seems like the Call only happens to modern dragons. It's hard to say why, but I think with as many Called as there are, it's safe to say that it doesn't affect Ancients. I wonder why...?

____"Obviously, there's still so much more to learn and observe. We're really only at the beginnings of this awe-inspiring font of magic. By my calculations, we've tens-- if not a hundred or more!-- dragons to join the Called, as of right now. So there's plenty of time to find out more."

____"Oh, you'd like to know about, uhm, me?" The timid pearlcatcher fumbles her quill and pearl, surprised to find herself the object of attention. "Oh, well, I'm nothing special, not really. I-- well... no. Actually, let me start over." She pauses, collecting herself somewhat. "My name is Crayola, and while I may be young--" here, she puffs out her chest-- "I am the foremost expert on the confluence of arcane prismatic energies that is gathering here in the Star Wood Strand. While the illustrious dragons themselves cannot explain their desire to congregate here, I lead our efforts to investigate and, erm, fully explore the ramifications of such colorful and, ah, mysterious forces!" Immediately after finishing, she gulps down air. Clearly the speech could use a little more polishing, but her passion is bright and clear.

____"Mostly it means I write a lot of notes, and help newcomers settle in, though. It's not every day folks just...get up and wander off into the forest, finding themselves drawn inexplicably to an out-of-the-way rainbow village, now is it? It can be a little disorienting." She smiles peaceably. This pearlcatcher's already seen her fair share of very confused folks. "So I act a little bit as a liason, between the Watch of the Arcane and these... Colorfully Called. I observe, I watch. I'm not a part of the Called, but I feel it too, I think. Some part of me does. And it's a mystery! I could never resist a good mystery," she adds, chuckling.
