Quote:
It’s unbeatable at every game. This has earned it underground infamy within all of Plumire, much to its chagrin. It didn’t play games to make a name for itself (Highscore wasn’t even its name, having chosen to forget its real one a long time ago), nor for some kind of recognition (far be it in fact, it hated being recognized (save for the small exception of Retrograde…)).
It played to win. That’s all. It was only a competitive streak, one that wasn’t going to fizzle out anytime soon.
Besides, this attention wasn’t good—already it had been banned from a few arcades it used to frequent, significantly restricting its game variety access. This was upsetting, because games were a great escape from all of the drama too. To just forget the world around you, hell, even forget yourself, even temporarily… It was nice.
Thankfully, not all of its haunts were barred entry. Retrograde promised her arcade would still stay open to it then. When it asked why, she simply hiccuped, “‘cause you’re crazy! You’re number one on every machine of mine!” then proceeded to cackle something wild. Her words helped soothe Highscore’s nerves then, because it knew it could play to its heart content without any worry of repercussion. It also realized that perhaps it was the highest contributor of quarters as well, since its here almost everyday now.
Highscore smiles to itself then and returns its focus to playing a stacker game.
