Biography
”WE LIVED! WE LIVED!”
The plague dragons chirped through the waves of the Sea of a Thousand Currents. “WE LIVED!”
But two tundras had worse luck. Their only egg, their precious child, has vanished. Gone into the Wyrmwound. Who knew what could have happened to it?
~
Lonely. So, so lonely. The egg drifted underneath the goo, mutating. The hatchling inside helpless, no one to help it.
So Plaguebringer gave it a brother.
They were supposed to die. If the hatchling was to die, at least it wouldn’t die alone.
But it survived.
~
“Ash..?” A skydancer asks carefully. “What is that..?” She flicks her tail towards the edge of the Wrymwound, where an ice egg bobbed beneath the surface.
“Zuri. Zuri you know the rules.” Another skydancer, with a stern, young voice runs over. “Get away from the edge.”
“Aw.” Zuri says. “I thought you said that only the mortals can’t go near the edge.”
“You may become something horrible.” Ash says.
Another hatchling walks over. “Ash is right.” She says, grinning. “You may be weaker than you think. Only the strongest survive, remember.”
“FOXGLOVE!” Ash screams in anger. “FOXGLOVE THIS IS NO TIME FOR SNARKY AND RUDE REMARKS.”
“Ash is right.” Zuri chuckles. “Shut up, Foxglove.”
“What about you do the same?” Foxglove snarls.
“No thanks.” Zuri grins.
“Foxglove? Are you kidding me?” Ash growls, pulling the hatchling towards her using her wing. “Get over here.”
~
The next day, the flock of skydancers went to the Wyrmwound again.
“Alright adolescents.” Ash said, slightly irritated. “Remember what I told you. Do not go near the edge.”
Zuri goes near the edge.
“ZURI. WHAT DID I TELL YOU?”
Zuri sighs. “Ash. T-there’s an egg! An ice egg!”
“A-a what?!” Ash exclaims. “How could it survive?”
Zuri sighs again. “That’s the thing. It..it probably didn’t.”
“Then, we should leave it be.” Ash says.
“Could we give it a proper funeral at least?” Another hatchling asks. “Please?”
“..”
“I GOT THIS.” A mirror hatchling screams, running near the edge.
“WAIT. GLOW, WAIT. PLEASE WAIT.” Another mirror screeches.
“MOOOOOOOM.” Glow shouts, shutting her eyes.
And then she opens them again.
They glow brightly. The egg gets lifted out of the goop, and onto the ground.
“G-glow!” The mirror shouts. “I told you not to use your magic around others. You know what might happen! We may be killed for our..our strange abilities.”
“But it worked, mom!”
It indeed did. But the egg did not hatch.
…
Yet.
