A former weapon designed to defend his home world, Xero was formerly known as "Project X" by all who saw him. He had incredible power stored within, but needed constant training to improve. He wasn't like an ordinary weapon; He had emotions, and could sense what others felt as well.
After years of training and being worked on, X was deemed to be terminated due to the threat to his world ending. However, he was the only project to be scrapped, due to his power. This angered him and he struck down a few of his creators in a fury, before being disabled and then destroyed, his parts never to be used again.
It was thought that X was dead, but he was reborn as a being of light and brought into the Kingdom of Light, a place that was said to be a myth to some and real to others. He was brought before the God of Light, Li-Kah, and was told that the light in his heart could be sensed, despite the killings. Li-Kah saw the attack as a form of self defense and done out of fear, and said that he could help X do so much more to protect the world.
X worked on his technique under the watchful eye of Li-Kah, and was eventually given special armor, as well as a new name: Hero, Protector of Light. While this was a good step toward success, he didn't see his power as anything except a way to get revenge, and struck down a few nearby soldiers, boasting about how he didn't need the "help of a sap".
Li-Kah knew that things would only get worse and stripped X of his light powers, then banished him to the Kingdom of Darkness, where he was instantly greeted by shadows and decay -- As well as a group of imps who enjoyed to pick on anyone they met.
The imps asked his name, and upon being told it was Hero, laughed and jeered, claiming that in this kingdom, he was "nothing but a zero". The longer they teased him, the more X enjoyed the inspired new name. He was amused at the thought of "turning the world into nothing, just like he was", to the point where he surprised the imps by laughing as well. They ask him why he's not on his knees, begging for them to stop, and Xero tells them that they "were ridiculously pathetic, and anyone who bowed to them deserved to rot" before killing them. One imp managed to survive, however, and summoned stronger creatures: Guardians of the God of Darkness himself.
These creatures chained Xero up in order to torture him, and he threatened to kill them as well. The God of Darkness was amused by this and said that if Xero could escape the torture device with his life still in tact, he would allow him to take on anyone he wanted -- Including himself. Xero agreed to this and was brutally tortured, to the point where his rage converted into power and he broke free, using the chains to strangle and whip those who stood nearby. He then aimed for the God of Darkness, but was knocked out in one blow. However, his power could be felt coursing through his entire body, and he was eventually trained to the point where -- despite his parts remaining in the mortal realm -- he upgraded to a more powerful body with stronger weapons. His claws and boots gained the most strength, and he relished crushing smaller things under his boots and terrorizing others by scraping his claws against things just for the sound.
Eventually, Xero was fully upgraded, and his powers were said to rival those of the God of Darkness. He decided to test this theory and did a sneak attack, using his claws to rip out and drain his energy before finishing him with a stomp of his boot. He then struck the temple in which the two gods were worshipped and left it in ruins, the only remaining objects being two thrones representing the opposing deities. These thrones had bits of energy from their respective gods, and if one were to touch a throne and the God deem them worthy, they would be granted bits of their power...
...And this is what happened to a Toc Person named Ricki.
Despite being a small boy, Xero could sense a pained soul, and showed him visions because his energy would simply kill Ricki. These visions were of Ricki growing stronger and crushing those who hurt him, before joining a science team and eventually building the ultimate weapon when he was older. These visions all came true, and Ricki then dedicated his time to researching the gods.
Xero knew that one day, Ricki would return to show off his research. He was right, and upon seeing Ricki, granted him enough power to be fueled only by anger and jealousy. However, Ricki couldn't handle this much power and was knocked unconscious after a small fit of rage. The darkness was later extracted from Ricki, but Xero knew that due to his past, Ricki would only be seen as a monster and vile killer, and that the spark will reignite in due time.
He was right again, and after multiple outbursts from Ricki, the temple suddenly became filled with energy, and Xero escaped. While the temple still stood, neither deity could leave their respective kingdom, and had to watch their Chosen Warriors from there.
Xero revealed himself to a few citizens of Toc World, including Ricki, his brother: Freddi, and Ricki's boyfriend: Electro. He informed them on how he was the reason why Ricki was so deranged and angry, then how he used Ricki to do his dirty work. However, upon hearing about how he was in Electro's dream, he became curious, yet outraged at the thought that a "mere mortal" has seen his greatness, even more so when he found that Li-Kah had blessed Electro with light energy. He tortured Electro to the point where he was weakened, but not enough to avoid being dealt a devastating blow with his light powers. Announcing that the world would crumble due to Ricki, Xero vanished into darkness, not returning until Ricki and Electro's wedding. This return traumatized Electro and he could only watch as his husband was consumed by darkness and terrorized the kingdom.
Xero began to live in Ricki's mind as a virus, and enjoyed interrupting any romantic activity between Ricki and Electro. He would also use his influence to empower Ricki's lust, to the point where Electro would have to hold him back or even hide from him. He began to fill his head with dark thoughts and would make him go insane, devastating parts of the kingdom. He also enjoyed making others squirm while using Ricki's body and would leave Ricki questioning why people were hiding from him.
Eventually, Xero made Ricki go out into a city in the kingdom and destroy it. When he was found, Xero left Ricki to fend for himself as he was accused of such a horrible crime.
Ricki was imprisioned and Xero took advantage of this by toying with his mind, telling him that he was betrayed by those he cared for. He reduced his emotions to nothing but anger, hate, and pain, and even caused him to lash out when Electro came to visit. This ended their communication with each other and Xero could only chuckle, knowing that Ricki no longer had the power of light on his side.
Eventually, Ricki was released, but despite the deep apologies, destroyed the prison and killed the guards who came to torture him before leaving the kingdom, being controlled by Xero's powers completely. Xero then took him to the lab he worked in, and killed everyone inside before destroying the lab. However, Xero didn't realize that Ricki had some hidden weapons hiding underneath the lab, and these weapons were the only way to counter his darkness without the power of a god.

I doubt he has any blood, he thought, before quickly batting away those thoughts back into the recesses of his mind. “Xero, right! I think I was told you were a king. Or something. I, well— Do you… want something? Bow? Erm, sure, if that makes you happy.” Ver lowered his head a little, but not too far as he didn’t want to scratch his fangs. Despite the cold and malicious attitude emanating from Xero, Ver didn’t seem to care. Like always, he seemed to have no regard for his safety. However, this particular individual couldn’t bleed, right? He smiled kindly at the two bigger dragons, unintentionally bearing all of his sharp teeth. His biggest claw tapped the ground beneath him thoughtfully as he tried to think in advance of the best replies to use, and whether the ones he had already used were appropriate. He never addressed anyone with more respect than he does his clanmates: always casual, even to those much higher in power. He didn’t really seem to care either. He didn’t seem to care much about a lot of things; he was always rather spur-of-the-moment.
I love his backstory, and all the art you made for him! The skin and electric apparel are perfect, since he’s a machine!

Verhängnis stared up at the machine looming over him, only glancing briefly at the even bigger one behind Xero. I doubt he has any blood, he thought, before quickly batting away those thoughts back into the recesses of his mind. “Xero, right! I think I was told you were a king. Or something. I, well— Do you… want something? Bow? Erm, sure, if that makes you happy.” Ver lowered his head a little, but not too far as he didn’t want to scratch his fangs. Despite the cold and malicious attitude emanating from Xero, Ver didn’t seem to care. Like always, he seemed to have no regard for his safety. Potassium saunters into the throne room. Although masked, a toothy grin can be seen on her face. She looks up at Lord Xero, and sinks into a deep bow. As she rises, she cheerily grabs one of his massive claws and gives him a jovial handshake.
" Ay, like the power you got goin' on, Bossman. Me an' the rest of the clan send ya th' best of luck for ya conquering an' whatnot!! "
She exits the room, whispering excitedly to herself.
" Man, that got t'be th' coolest thing I ever did see. "
