In a bold move against dragon-kind, young Ruby was the victim of an egg snatching. Stolen from her warm, safe nest by a group of Serthis, she was raised to young adulthood among them. Constantly berated, and told that she was nothing but a brutish monster by her captors/guardians, she quickly came to believe their harsh words to be true. Before the Serthis' plan could come to fruition however, the group broke out in internal conflict, spurned by those who believed the captured dragon could be broken and used against her own kind, and those who thought her a danger that should be immediately removed. In the midst of their civil war, a hunting clan watched, led by Adrammalech and Kouel. Taking advantage of the serpent clan's weakened and confused state, the dragons slaughtered the warring Serthis, claiming a victory of circumstance for the Icewarden and dragonkind. Finding the confused and abused young Imperial within the Serthis' den, Adrammalech's first inclination was to kill her as well, thinking her a traitor, and tainted. Her pleas to be taken in and taught how to be a proper dragon eventually convinced the wary Skydancer to give her a chance, tho he thought her little more than a pet. Adrammalech would let no other oversee her 'training' but himself. His words were cruel and demeaning, meant to tear her down. But with each hurtful insult that came her way, Ruby grew only more determined to prove him wrong, and to prove that she could be a true dragon: something to be proud of. Despite his cruelty, Ruby looked up to her teacher, idolizing him and fostering more than a bit of a secret crush. Tho his words cut still at times, she cannot deny the sparks between them. While at the moment rocky, perhaps there is more to discover in the ice than only cold. Perhaps there is also a hidden warmth somewhere, and the promise that she may one day no longer be alone. Her mannerisms can be, at times, distinctly undraconic, revealing her odd upbringing and more often than not resulting in a very embarrassed Ruby berating herself for her foolishness. However, with each passing day, she grows more confident--tho she fears that she will discover in herself the arrogant and merciless nature of a dragon that her serpent captors warned her of. In time, who knows what she may become? Perhaps she truly will learn to be as cruel as the beastmen who raised her foretold. Or perhaps she will remain as kind and gentle as a blooming flower. Either way, it is her path to choose now, and she will let no others decide her fate, nor will she run from it. While Ruby may well one day become one with her demons, she will never again flee from them. |
