Chlothar's origins are somewhat of a mystery; his lineage is an infamous one, but he wasn't received well most places he went. Not even by Luma. The leader found his history unsettling at best, and wasn't impressed with his devil-may-care demeanor. While she didn't want him around, the story was very different for Viraso. Luma's mate considered him more of a Plagueborn miracle, and did enough placating of his partner that Lo was allowed to stay-- as long as he didn't cause trouble. Chlothar interpreted this as, 'as long as she doesn't find out I've caused trouble'. He seemed entertained enough with irritating pranks to begin with, but it wasn't long before things escalated. That's how he met Kaesa, the daughter of Luma and Viraso. After seeing what she was capable of, he was enamored-- not necessarily in a romantic way, but by their shared traits. At first, she treated him as an annoyance, a fly buzzing around her head, but she grew to appreciate several of his qualities. First was that despite his sarcasm or jokes, he was actually quite cunning; secondly was his willingness to go along with anything that entertained him. He wasn't necessarily after disorder and chaos; just something to assuage the sheer boredom. That, Kaesa would give him. Lo leapt at the opportunity to get involved in the mess of leadership, knowing Kaesa would protect his place in the clan if he was ever caught. After all, if she didn't, he could easily share the information he had. Lo has, of course, developed some sort of affection towards Kaesa, and she to him, but their shared yearning to be at the top of the food chain is what truly binds them, rather than something so silly and fleeting as love. However, there's something else lurking in Lo's lineage, which has yet to resurface. And when it does, even Kaesa may find herself at odds with him. |
