"Please don't die." The imperial, cast in shadows, whispered as it placed the hatchling's basket down. "I may not want you here, but neither do i want a dead son." The figure ran for it, past the winding paths. " if somebody wants you, they can have you. " were its parting words. The hatchling gave a muffled cry. A passing imperial heard the call, hurrying over. "A hatchling?" She whispered. "Hello, you... I'm sure nobody would object to your presence. I suppose you're a shadowling now. Good luck with that." She picked up the basket with a motherly grace and walked back. Everyone would be so pleased...
Mishka hurriedly grabbed his apron, skidding to a halt behind the stall and quickly slipping it over his head. He sat there and waited... and waited.. AND WAITED! Why was no one coming to buy anything? Then....."MISHKA! " He groaned. "Oh no..." It was raven, a, well... Raven coloured skydancer. " why were you sleeping? " "I ...umm ... I.....well... " No more excuses!"Raven shouted angrily. " you're fired! " " No, please, please don't do this!" Raven sighed. " I'm so sorry mishka. But this is the 5th time this week! That AND you set the stall on fire last week , do you remember? Mishka gulped. How could he have forgotten? He trudged slowly home, his apron trailing behind him. Then he walked into a stranger, a small teal fae. "Where are you from?" It asked mishka. " I'm ...I'm from ...shadow". Said mishka sadly. "Are you sure?" The fae asked. "what do you mean?" Mishka asked, confused. "I mean your eyes.." The fae indicated his eyes, which were pastel pink. ]ishka blushed, pulling the hood further down his face. "Quirk of nature, Sybil says. I don't know why, sorry. I've never even been outside shadow." he shrugged apologetically. The fae shook its head. " Nah, mate. Those are arcane eyes, pastel arcane eyes. " Mishka stopped still. "No. No, I'm shadow!" He shouted, running into the forest near his house. is it true? Mishka wondered. but how? He stood up. He would find out once and for all. | __ |

"Hello, mishka! What book will you be taking today?" "Just wondering..." Mishka trailed off, dawdling at the doorstep of the library. "Yes?" " do you have any books on eye types? " He pressed out, stepping in. "Try the top floor." The helpful fae replied. He nodded.
PASTEL EYES
Oh no. The fae was right! Mishka was no shadow dragon.Pastel eyes were first discovered in starwood strand... Blah blah blah... 
I'm arcane......how? How can this be? Sybil was enjoying a nice cup of tea when Mishka burst in. "Is it true?" He demanded. Sybil went pale. "Wh-" "YOU KNOW WHAT." Sybil's eyes filled with tears. " i suppose it is. " she whispered. "I'm sorry." She tried to say, but Mishka was already up and running. "Where are you going?" she called. "You know where. Arcane. And I'm never, ever coming back." "So... You just.. Left?" Seaspray wrinkled her nose. "That was a bad choice. You fitted in there, not here." The fae added with her usual bluntness. He nodded. "I know." " Well, sitting there won't do MUCH, will it? " seaspray snapped. Mishka tried not to cry. Seeing his sadness, the fae added: "hey, I'll come with you. Shadow is pretty far away." "Thanks... " he said gratefully. "And that's what happened." He finished, looking at the shadowbinder sadly. " will you take me back? " the shadowbinder said nothing, but a mark of shadow began to grow on mishka's flank. Seaspray smiled. "I think that's a yes." She whispered. |
