With that name on the lips, you dig into the drenched earth until your fingertips are bleeding. You gather the scorched bone fragments scattered in the soil.

Then you sneak into the sealed chamber, rummage through the drawers in the dark, and peel a fiery-red hair lock from the comb. Lean onto the latticed window. With the rain-soaked wings, the evening descends onto the weary town as they’re lighting the lanterns in the taverns far below your ivory tower.

When the night falls, you'll wrap up in the skeletal rags and step down below the houses and workshops, into the very womb of the city, hunted by the apparitions of the bygone days.

♛ Bastian Danubis is de facto ruler of the Monterosa city-state and its surrounding territories. His (self) title is emperor, although the size of his territories seldom matches the magnitude of his ego.

♛ Bastian is a highly divisive figure: many see him as an endearing revolutionary, while others consider him to be a ruthless, stuffy despot with little to no mercy or care for the opinions of dissenters.

♛ After a long unbroken line of kings descending from the local dynasty, Bastian was voted into office. What could go wrong with giving absolute power to a charming, young visionary with an adorable family? (Spoiler: lots of things.)

♛ The emperor enjoys reading, collecting ~~stolen~~ artifacts and paintings, listening to bombastic classical music, and secretly adores the cheesy musicals from the community theatre (the ones that don’t mock him personally, of course).

♛ He has four children but doesn't see either of them as an adequate heir. Strict and insensitive, Bastian wouldn’t fare too well in the "Father of the year" competition. Rumors claim that Bastian personally exiled his oldest son Yakov after death of his mother.

♛ His favorite food is lobster thermidor ~~and 1$ dried sprats from a vendor near the fish market, but don't tell that to anyone!~~
