A scent stopped him, sweet, and irresistible, it pulled his head almost magnetically toward the most strikingly beautiful female he'd ever seen. She smelled like roses and fertility, not something he would expect from one of the Plaguebringer's daughters. She was freshly-spilled blood on bleached bones, and so achingly attractive.
But he knew better than to fall for her. The Plaguemother's daughter raised under the Shadowbinder was nothing if not treacherous.
"Lost your way?" She spoke, and her smooth, rich voice made him momentarily forget his own thoughts of warning.
"I'm no lost traveler," he said slowly, not daring to approach the much larger female. How would he even get up there? "Merely a wandering observer."
"Oh?" She dipped her head, and her eyes looked as red as rose petals, garnets, his blood spilled across the forest floor.
He saw his death in her eyes, writhing, painful, the Shadowbinder's children laughing and peering at him from the underbrush. Would blood even show against her gem-encrusted limbs?
"Have you found anything interesting to observe in this realm?"
Kalrennath blinked away his troubled thoughts, "Indeed I have. Quite interesting."
Alluring was the proper word, he believed. And she was, indeed, so very alluring that it was late before he could bring himself to leave her. She didn't try to stop him, but he could feel her sanguine eyes burning into him as he walked on.
It was time to leave this forest and its temptress behind. There would be no bloody Valentines for him.
Come closer my darling....
