Shiver

Even as a small egg, Shiver was different from her siblings. The nest guards of Adavar would peer into their matriarch's nest with concern and wonder if they should worry their leader with such a cold, curious thing. For a long time, that egg seemed not to move like the others and was cold to the touch as though it were an ice egg with merely the appearance of something of shade. With little known about them, clan members began to wonder if Nocturnes could perform such trickery on their eggs or even before their birth, but as the chill of the shell remained the theories turned maliciously towards the ice-born mage, Eira. Hecate, with a smile on her fiendish mouth, accused the pearlcatcher of being still loyal to the old rulers of the clan and imbuing their matriarchs nest with a curse to sow the seeds of doubt in her strength as a leader. Eira, of course, denied this profusely and countered that it was likely the result of her accuser's own dark meddling. This back and forth of accusations culminated in the Keeper taking the egg from her progenitor's nest, keeping tiny Shiver away from the prying eyes of the shadows. She remained in those warm cushioned quarters for many weeks as she grew, her claws bringing a sheet of frost to all they touched, but the Keeper never spoke to her like it was a curse -- instead her gift, unique to a shadowling at least as far as they knew, was a thing of pride and Shiver, now old enough to realise she would always be an object of quarrel in Adavar, chose to level to find a new home.
