B I O G R A P H Y

Jolly did not know why her egg hatched far from the Southern Icefield, her birth element. Nor how she got blown as a tiny hatchling, only hours old across Sornieth into a tiny place in the Windswept Plateau. Her little wings could barely keep up with the crazy, winding, twisting winds.

She landed in a daze, looking up at a spiral dragon with a funny breezy mask. She could not help but laugh at his mask, it looked incredulously silly. He picked her up, confused as to what such a small dragon was doing all on her own in his cozy home in Singer’s Brook.

Seeing her giddy little grin, he decided to name her Jolly. It had seemed everything had made this youngster smile. He tucked her into his warm feathered wings and brought her to his clan. He introduced himself to the little dragon as Silverwind, the leader of the clan as he flew in the twilight sky.

He sought out Astra, the clan astronomer and fortune teller. Perhaps, he wondered, she could see where this little Jolly needed to go. The quiet water dragon took one look and melted at the happy smile Jolly gave her. While she tinkered with her telescope, Jolly grabbed at Astra’s Sky Crystal, staring at it in wonder.

It was then a flash of light lit up the meadow.

Jolly began to shine with iridescence, swirls of blues and browns appearing on her wings. She was transfixed on the magic crystal ball, seeing herself for the first time in its reflection. In it, she did not see a tiny hatchling, but a wise and intelligent sage who would be a big part in helping another clan to the north.

Astra had seen it all, shocked at what she had seen. She consulted the stars above, and she could see that this dragon shared her very same gift—the gift to read the future. She explained what she saw to Silverwind and they had agreed they needed to send this little one on her way to the home that needed her.

_Pt 2_

____When Jolly arrived in her new clan, delivered by Silverwind, she felt a sense of purpose. This clan needed her, having come so far from unknown lands to settle down in Dragonhome. She could feel the determination of this clan through their leader, Knowledge. He had come to greet them when they arrived.

Jolly gave him one of her best smiles, hoping to reassure this dragon that she would bring a lot of joy and happiness to his clan now that she had arrived. She felt at home, despite it being so far from her icy element. Silverwind explained how she had blown into his home and how Astra saw that Jolly needed to come here, with her gift.

Upon settling, Jolly found life different than the laid back, quiet wind clan. There was a lot of training to help Earthshaker in the never ending battle with the beast clans. Dragons came and went, all of whom joining the fight after training under the clan’s best warriors.

At first, her gift felt wasted, not knowing how she, of all dragons, could help them. Once she learned the ways of the clan and had matured more, she began predicting the best places to train the warriors, or the best places to gather supplies. The clan consulted her often, but she felt weighed down at times. Something still did not feel right. Her gift of prediction had served them well, sure. But, she never could see far enough to see the final outcome of these battles. What use was there predicting only the smaller victories?

Still, day in, day out, she was consulted and she advised dutifully. Eventually, she became one of the clan’s best advisors. She knew battle tactics, she knew the ways of the beast clans, she knew the weather patterns all over Sornieth. She kept the clan safe from enemy attacks, she arranged the best places to gather food, the clan prospered under her advice.

_Pt 3_

____It was not until another dragon came to sit beside her one day as she gazed out at a rising sun creeping up the distant pillar, that she found her true gift to the clan.

It was Lumens, a dragon who was born in Silverwind’s clan. She had come to her, confiding that sometimes she missed dragons she used to know, who are now lost forever. Lumens seemed sad, and at first Jolly wasn’t sure how to help.

She asked Lumens what she wanted help for. Did she want to know if there was a way for her to reach those lost dragons? Did she want her to try to find out why they were lost?

Lumens shrugged her wings forlornly. She explained those dragons would never be found again, they were lost to the sands of time. There was nothing any dragon could do about them. Instead, she really just wanted a friend to talk to, to share her thoughts and worries with. She thought there’d be no better dragon to talk to than Jolly.

When Jolly asked her why, incredulously, when she could only see the future and could not change the past, why would she ask her. No other dragon had ever considered coming to her over personal matters, not until Lumens. She offered her a wing of comfort and Lumens turned to look at her.

She explained that when Jolly first came to the clan, everyone could feel the happiness radiating off of her, how her smile instantly warmed everyone. Dragons consulted her not because of her powers of future sight, but instead sought out her true gift:

The gift to bring everyone around her joy and happiness with a single smile.
