Seina moved easily through the trade area, Neri close behind. They'd heard someone had figured out how to reliably start bananas from cuttings, and wanted to surprise Glade with some. Normally the pair would be training, but hey, everyone needs a break, right? Neri galloped ahead of the imperial and skid to a stop in front of a stall decorated with a varied assortment of plants. Letting out a howl, she called, "I think I found it!" Seina grinned and joined the wolfish obelisk. "I'm not so sure this...." Her words trailed off as a living plant, no, a guardian! stepped from the shadows. "How may I help you," Conch asked, greeting the pair. "Hello, ma'am. We're in search of banana plants or seeds to surprise a clan mate. Is this the right shop," Sienna queried as Neri buried her nose in a bouquet. The guardian shook her head. "No, that shop is down a little way yet," she pointed in the general direction. A brown tundra dressed in red came bounding from the back of the shop. "Can I show them, Grandma?" She was so excited she practically vibrated. Conch chuckled. "Of course Strawberry, but don't forget to come home and help with the garden." "I won't," she called, already standing behind Seina and Neri. "Come on, I'll show you the way!" Noticing a scar on the imperial's shoulder, she gasped. "You're not a gardener!" Seina giggled. "No, and neither is Neri there. I come from a line of Warriors, and I am carrying on the family tradition." "And I'm a wolf! Awoooo!" Neri chimed in. "Or at least I wish I was, that's why the cape. Varia gave it to me so I could be an honorary Moonbeast and sit in on their sings." Strawberry spoke up, "Wow, sounds like your clan is home to all kinds of dragons. Do they allow anyone to join, or train for that matter?" She stopped in front of the herb shop. "Here we are." "Yes! Our leader's motto is “Kibohain Pache tagal.,” Seina informed her. "I'll be right back." The tundra wrinkled her brow, trying to say the foreign words. "What does that mean?" She turned to Neri, confused. ""You smell like family." She's a tundra too, and accepts all who wish to join." Strawberry's face brightened. "Really?! Do you think she would let me join? I'm sure Grandma wouldn't mind me moving to a good clan." Seina reappeared from the shop, tucking some rooted cuttings into her pouch. "I don't see why Nightrain wouldn't let you join. Are you sure your family's okay with it?" Strawberry pondered a moment. "I think so, but I do need to help Grandma with the garden first!" In her excitement, she broke into a trot headed back to her home shop, the obe and imp close behind. The gardening done, Conch packed a few things for her grandchild. "Here dear, take these with you," she said, handing the satchel to Strawberry. "Might as well take Geordie with you, he's been attached to you since he hatched." Strawberry cooed to the lion's mane seeker. He chirped in response and glided to land on her shoulder. A tear in her eye, she hugged the guardian tightly. "I'll miss you Grandma, and Momma, but I'll be sure to write!" Conch returned the hug warmly. "You better, or I'll hunt you down to check on you," she teased lightheartedly. Drying the tundra's tears (and fighting her own) she sent the young one to the door with a gentle tail flick. "Get going now. It'll soon be dark, and the Shifting Expanse isn't across the woods." "I love you!" Strawberry called as joined Neri and Seina. Heaving a sigh, she dried a few remaining tears. Seina patted her gently on the shoulder. "You'll be fine. "Auntie" Seina will make sure of it." Neri burst out laughing. Catching her breath, she spoke, "Seems that nickname I gave you when I was a hatchling stuck!" "Oh hush!" The imperial shoved playfully at the obelisk, who deftly dodged out of the way. Strawberry giggled at their antics. "Auntie, I think I'm ready to go now." The imperial gave her a warm smile, spreading her wings. "To the spire!" |
