Biography
odile of the shadows

she/her | asexual | member of frosthorne hall | spymaster
|| Background
Hatched in one of the first Tundra clans on Sornieth, Odile was a sneaky and charismatic dragon since she clawed free of her egg. In the early days, clans were loose and mostly unconnected; Odile's family was a small group of farmers who made their living hoeing the frozen earth on the eastern side of the Cloudscrape Crags. When the ambitious young Guardian, Boreas Frosthorne, arrived nearby and stated his intention to start a clan of his own, Odile and her family volunteered to be part of his new Burrow Village.
Being a fully-fledged adult when Frosthorne arrived, Odile wasn't content letting a stranger run her life and the lives of those she knew. She gained Lord Frosthorne's trust during her time in Frosthorne Hall, and he earned hers in turn; in due time, they both recognized Odile's skill at treachery and Boreas named her his spymaster. Skilled at her job, Odile enjoyed the position immensely, and quickly became Lord Frosthorne's most trusted underling.
After the Gaolers settled in Frosthorne Hall, Odile ended up being the one who received the news that something was amiss in the Starfall Isles first, and reported it to Overseer Kardala and Lord Frosthorne. Concerned over what they had heard, Odile sent a few of her spies to scout out the cult, only for none of them to return. It became abundantly clear that if they wanted the information they needed, Odile had to go herself— and so she did. Donning a disguise and hiding her face, Odile trekked to the Starfall Isles by herself and pledged false fealty to Tiarnan.
Sure enough, Odile's confidence in her skills was earned. During her time at Apotelesmatis, Odile sent coded messages back to Frosthorne Hall, and it was she who urged her Lord and Overseer at home to rise up and crush the cult when it became apparent that Apotelesmatis would not be content remaining in just one Flight. However, she was under scrutiny. Iarrtho, Tiarnan's right hand, had met Odile before and was suspicious of her from the moment she arrived, unsure of his instincts.
Eventually, Frosthorne Hall and the Gaoler Orders partnered with the Children of the Blood-Mark to make a decisive attack on Apotelesmatis. The plan was to rescue Odile during this time, and send her back home. But with his suspicions proved correct, Iarrtho did not hesitate to act on his anger, and while the battle was beginning, he hunted Odile down in the lower levels of the crater and killed her.
It wasn't until Tiarnan and Iarrtho had locked themselves in the Astrolabe and the battle was over that Odile's fate was discovered, still keeled over the parchment she was using to write her final missive back. Lord Frosthorne personally carried her body back to Frosthorne Hall and had her interred in his royal crypt, erecting a bust of her in honor of her brave deeds in the face of danger.

|| Notes
◈ During her time as Lord Frosthorne's spymaster, Odile carried so much importance in the nobility that she was sometimes referred to as 'Lady Frosthorne'. This has led to future dragons misremembering her as Boreas' mate, which she never was.
◈ As memory was such an important factor in her work, Odile kept a book of scents, inventing a personal technique of writing with scented inks so that the pages themselves would jog specific memories. She never let the book out of her sight.
◈ Though she was still close to her family, Odile willingly dropped her surname for the title 'of the Shadows', which was also given to every spymaster of Frosthorne Hall after her.
◈ The bust of Odile that was sculpted after her death and placed on her tomb was allegedly made of granite and had inset eyes of lapis lazuli; unfortunately, it was stolen at some point after the Hall disbanded and went to ruin. Rumor has it that the 'bust of Lady Frosthorne' is still out there somewhere...
