Biography
Amazing watercolor image made by BlueEternity
Melindo (often called Mel) is a sweet, somewhat quirky dragon that is determined to carry on his family's destiny - to save the watermelons of Sornieth from the Beastclans that seek to keep them all to themselves! As a hatchling, the joys of sharing and seeing someone smile upon receiving a sweet, juicy treat had been instilled in Mel. He wants to make sure that every creature of Sornieth can partake of that feeling - that sense of connection and community. Also, watermelons taste good. They're his favorite food, after all.
Melindo communicates well and thus finds himself delegating duties to his teammates after being chosen as team leader. He knows how to pair people together to bring out their strengths as well as how to strategize, which has been useful for planning raids against Beastclan groups. He has successfully led retrieval missions to reclaim the sweet melons that have been unjustly taken. His fortitude and endurance was enough to earn a blessing from the Earthshaker who transformed him into a sturdy Obelisk.
Mel's younger cousin Merlot, introduced him to a beautiful, charming, intelligent Coatl named Melanee. Melanee - what a lovely name! Merlot joked about them being a cute pair, Mel and Mel. Both he and the Coatl blushed red, which Melindo couldn't help but notice made her even more attractive. She was a mix of red, pink, and green, all colors that made him think of melons. Was he so obsessed with melons that he was thinking of other dragons - ones that hadn't come from watermelons - in that way? Maybe he should step away for the time being.
But Melindo found that he couldn't stay away from her. She would catch his attention whenever she was near. From the corner of his eye he would spot her in the distance and found himself wanting to be near.
He would spot her in the fields, studying plants. Sometimes Merlot was with her, sometimes she'd be working alone. Mel would say a soft greeting so as not to startle her then watch her as she sketched. She was very talented, her drawings an impressive rending of the plants before them. She could spend hours taking notes, and while Melindo didn't find plants to be as exciting, he found her passion to be contagious. He loved seeing her examine them in detail - and sometimes he caught her staring at him in the way. As if she was trying to learn as much as she possibly could by watching him.
Observation is useful, he knew that. He could read body language and understand the importance of examination in the role of learning, but he also knew that talking was a good way to build a relationship. At first they spoke of more superficial things - the weather, places they'd traveled, their favorite foods. Overtime they moved to more intimate topics - their family, their hobbies, their hopes and dreams. He shared his inner feelings with her; he'd never felt as comfortable with anyone else before. He shared how he'd been blessed by the Earthshaker and transformed into a mighty Obelisk. Could he work up the courage to tell her his family's secret, how his grandparents had been turned into a dragon from watermelons? It could put the melon dragons at risk...and he needed to keep them safe. But they'd built a rapport over the past few weeks; he knew that she could be trusted. So he shared their history with Melanee. She listened intently and didn't interrupt. As he looked deep into her eyes, he felt like he'd laid his soul bare and she would now see his very essence, and he could see hers.
In that moment he knew - he wanted to spend his life with her.
Creeping Frost event wrote:
A note found pinned to a fence post warned the farm that the Forsaken Fruit had been watching, waiting, planning an attack. It was a cold winter day - much colder than usual - when that threat came true. Cold magic was beginning to kill the delicious melons of the farm. Dragon kin from all across Sornieth came to help save the melons and band together to figure out who was behind the attack. Some dragons choose to remain at the farm to build a greenhouse to shelter the melons while others (including Melindo) went into the woods to seek the source of the magical frost. These brave dragons found four pillars of light, guarded by foes that they were able to overcome. The pillars were destroyed and the frost began to dissipate. Upon returning to the farm, Melindo helped fight off the Rat Lord and their minions, saving the melons from the Forsaken Fruit...for now.
With the mysterious frost taken care of, Melindo and Melanee took a trip back to Melanee's homeland and spent long hours lounging together in the sun. They decided to hatch a nest there is that warmth, surrounded by fertile growing land. Three eggs resulted from their efforts and soon three little melon dragons joined the family: Sandia, Tikiti, and Lanatus.
