The third hatchling of Citrullus and Sangria's first nest fell asleep in the melon patch cuddled next to their two other siblings. The Nocturne hatchling whimpered softly as if to stir from a nightmare, but could not wake. Shadow. Nothing but darkness. The shadows pooled under claw but it did not act like water. More like a thick rolling ground fog.

Every movement in the hatchling's dream brought the shadows closer to the center of it's location. A voice spoke softly. "You and your siblings travel in shadow." The Shadowbinder always favored her chosen children (Nocturne and Veilspun). The Shadow fog rose up covering the hatchling. The fog so thick Estrello could not see out and almost thick enough that made it hard to breathe.

The shadows gave way a moment later and dull light shown through. They wandered their dream beneath giant glowing mushrooms. Faeries dashed about which Estrello gave chase soon after. The foot steps left in the ground seemed to get longer and longer between each step. He felt lighter, quicker, and full of energy, but also had a need to stay near other dragons.

He tripped in his dream as he stepped on his long growing mane. He felt different, but as he looked around the Wispwillow Grove his sight seemed divided but focused on some points. The low light glow of the mushrooms was comforting. He made his way to a still pond lit by the glow of mushrooms. His reflection startled him awake.

What was a dream is now reality.

The mane around his face tickled his scales as it slid down. He sat up and looked around, startled he gasped for breath. He sat and stared up at the night sky with no urge to move away from the warmth of his siblings. His faceted eyes focused on his siblings as he laid back down. "Follow the shadows." He almost missed the voice as he drifted back to sleep.

It had been some time at his new melon patch. He was not alone. There was Melondy and Fruitsalad. They were older than he was and were like an older brother and sister to him, though Melondy was an older cousin.

Melondy had brought him to Kelorn to train. A brave melon Estrello was, but full of freedom and independence too. He preferred to train alone though he was always under the watchful eye of Kelorn.

Estrello was a mouthy melon and a little stubborn, and would butt heads with Kelorn; but there was more tolerance and respect for the old Wildclaw. He would never fully admit it, but he liked being around other dragons. Melondy and Tea would teach him about herbs and how to bandage himself, but he used that knowledge to tend to his own private garden of deadly flora along with more healing flora.

His interest in the properties of these deadly flora grew and he brewed different weapon oils with different plant parts. His claw weapons would carry a deadly bite to them. Not all flora is dangerous as there are benefits to tonics and potions as well.

Shadows made him more comfortable and he would spend time with the more nocturnal dragons of the clan. His rogue ways would get him in trouble, but he would never tell where his stash of trinkets were hidden.

It would not be long before two more melons joined the patch. The two female Veilspun became friends and talked between each other. Every time Estrello was around they would whisper to each other. He pretended to not notice and focused on what ever task he was given. Distractions would only cause him to bicker with Kelorn. He wanted peace tonight and to tend to his garden after practice.

He started a mini garden in his room mostly consisting of glow mushrooms, but there were a few other saplings in clay pots. He would get visits from fairies who were more interested in playing their tricks while he was journaling and taking notes, distracting him, and up to their fairy antics.

Estrello was not alone studying plants in the clan. His focus on the subject caught the eyes of one of the local dragons. Tea may have taught him how to heal with plants, but the vibrant Bogsneak would watch him out in the garden. She was all too familiar with the plants being grown and approached Estrello. "I believe we haven't met yet. Well I spend all day in my lab." The Bogsneak laughed. "I go by Vibrant. I couldn't help but notice you growing some interesting plants. I do a lot of potion brewing in my lab. Feel free to stop by in your free time."

Estrello eyed the Bogsneak and her brightly patterned scales, and her tail was glowing? "I like my peace and quiet, but I'll check it out."

Vibrant caught him eying her tail and she flicked it. "Yes it glows in the dark. All the hatchlings ask."

He looked away. "Sorry for staring."

"No offense taken." She pointed a claw to the building where she worked. "My workshop is in there. My trade is Alchemy. I'm sure you would be interested. We use a lot of the same plants. I make my own tea blends too."

"I'll take up your offer. Any way to improve and grow I welcome." Estrello gathered more herbs and plants and shook the dirt off the roots. He placed them in his satchel bag. "I'll meet at your lab in a few days. I need to prepare these plants to dry."

"Sure thing. Just make sure to tie back your hair. I...uh...had a lab accident where my hair caught fire. That was a wild day." She laughed.

Estrello made the mental note to braid his hair and tie it back. No way he was going to get his mane burned.
