Tropico didn't even consider leaving his birth clan of Aestuum until he was certain his sibling, Gardbarn, had recovered from their mishap on their first adventure together beyond clan territory. It had taught them both a harsh lesson, and scared them out of any ideas they had about moving to other clans. But there came a time when Tropico began to grow restless, his other siblings had all settled into the Lumiera Clan together, and Gardbarn's condition had long been stable. It felt like a time for him to try and go his own way, that if he didn't, he might not ever feel the same opening again.

Still reluctant to expose himself to any danger, he decided to travel to the ancestral clan of his Gaoler mother. Meristema was known to be an open, welcoming clan and this was immediately proven correct when he sent word ahead and his great great grandfather met him on the way.

Mulberry was a seasoned fighter, and Tropico felt safe with him. His company made the journey pleasant and full excitable anticipation, whereas travelling alone, it would likely have been plagued with anxiety.

The Meristema Clan was very different to his watery home, and he took great interest in all of the surrounding flora (which was clearly a very important and celebrated aspect of this clan). He was also excited to meet his family members, and was surprised so many of his relatives lived there. He puzzled out how they were each related to him, and found amusement in how many vastly different dragon breeds were his blood relatives.

It didn't take long for Tropico to learn the value of nests here, and how the clan leaders had experienced a rocky start to their family, just like his own mother. Unfortunately the Meristema Clan had begun with bereavement, and Tropico thanked the Tidelord for getting his own family through their difficulties.

It didn't take long for him to find his purpose in his new clan. He'd always been of a creative mind, and had an affinity for sculpting clay. He put this skill to work making a fertility statue for each and every nest in the Meristema Clan. The expecting parents were touched and thrilled by these careful crafts, and Tropico quickly became a well-known and highly regarded member of the clan.

Tropico always liked to infuse his clay with elements from the surroundings, believing perhaps he could imbue some magic into his moulding if he took from land belonging to the correct deity. On one of his explorations in the territory to find materials he encountered another dragon hard at work. A pale Tundra with delicate dark patterning and equally delicate garb, Tropico watched from a distance as this dragon carefully scratched a pattern into a tree trunk.

He was precise, and yet relaxed. Tropico was taken aback went the Tundra, apparently finished, looked over his shoulder and smiled at him from under his hood.

"Sorry if I disturbed you," Tropico was quick to say, even though the Tundra had apparently been aware of his presence the entire time.

His only answer was a shake of the head, and then a beckoning gesture. Tropico approached and his new companion moved aside for him to assess the work.

It was an intricate carving of Spirals flying and dancing around the tree trunk. It was beautiful and the energy that came across was astounding given the static nature of the image. Tropico was quick to say so.

"Are all the carvings around here yours?"

Another nod, and something must have shown in Tropico's expression as the Tundra suddenly seemed worried and flustered. He made an 'X' gesture over his throat with his claw.

"You're mute?"

He looked relived and nodded.

"I expect you're not used to dragons not already knowing." They smiled at one another. "But you have a name, right? Why don't you sign your work so I can read it."

A few quick scratches and the Tundra stood back again.

Alencon.

"You wouldn't happen to know about the clay around here would you, Alencon?"

It didn't take long for Tropico to realise that he was rather smitten with Alencon, and once he understood this, he did not attempt to hide it.

He learnt that Alencon was the first child born in Meristema, hatching just before his two Spiral siblings, when the clan only consisted of eight dragons. All of his immediate family had remained here, closely tied to the clan founders.

Alencon was celebrated for his artistic talent and vauled for his calm and sensible demeanor. But he was not a sociable dragon, and never had been. Tropico began to realise the sadness in the first carving he had witnessed as he got to know the family. Alencon's Spiral sister had many children of her own, and his brother was social and gregarious. The carving seemed to show the lives Alencon merely sat back and watched.

Tropico wanted him to live his own life, and to live it with him. Of course Alencon smiled at his proposal like he'd been waiting for Tropico to say it all along.

Now the two artisans of Meristema have a workshop together, and try their hands at each others techniques. Tropico has taken to selling some of their wares to interested travellers and is trying to convince Alencon to make some things that Kashan and the other traders of the clan can take to market.
