Gaia the Earth and Tityos the Gladeveins Needletooth.

_________________________________________ The ancestral mother of all life, the ever-sure foundation of all. Gaia is one of the primordial gods, the four beings that came into existence at the begining of the Universe, preceded by Chaos and followed by Tartarus and Eros. She is the sole mother of Uranus, the Ourea and Pontus. By Uranus, Gaia bore the Titans: Oceanus, Coeus, Crius, Hyperion, Iapetus, Theia, Rhea, Themis, Mnemosyne, Phoebe, Tethys and Cronos; then the giant one-eyed Cyclopes: Brontes, Steropes and Arges; and finally the Hecatonchires: Cottus, Briareos and Gyges, each with a hundred arms and fifty heads. As each of the Cyclopes and Hecatonchires were born, Uranus hid them in a secret place within Gaia, causing her great pain. So Gaia devised a plan. She created a grey flint sickle and Cronos, the wily, youngest and most terrible of her children, that hated his sire, used the sickle to overthrow Uranus. From his spilled blood, Gaia produced the Erinyes, the Giants and the Meliae. |
_________________________________________ After Uranus's defeat, Gaia and Pontus brought forth Nereus, Thaumas, Phorcys, Ceto and Eurybia, producing a line consisting primarily of sea deities, sea nymphs, and hybrid monsters. Typhon came from her union with Tartarus. Having learned from his parents that he was destined to be overthrown by one of his children, Cronos decided to swallow each of the children born to him by Rhea. When Rhea became pregnant with her youngest child, Zeus, she sought help from Gaia and Uranus and when the child was born, she gave Cronos a stone wrapped in swaddling-clothes in his place, which he swallowed. Gaia then took Zeus into her care and hid him in a steep cave. It was with her advice later on that he defeated the Titans. It was also by her and Uranus' advice that Zeus himself swallowed Metis, his first wife who was pregnant, so that no son born of them would overthrow him, as had been foretold. Thus Athena was first born within Zeus and then escaped from his body through his forehead. |
