═══════════════════════════════════════════ TRIGLAV ; Próba stworzenia nowego Boga ze zwłok Pradawnych... ═══════════════════════════════════════════ Name meaning: Триглав, lit. 'three-headed one'; Latin: Triglau Triglav is allegedly depicted as representation of three major Slavic gods that vary from one Slavic tribe to others that serve as the representatives of the three realms. An early variation included Svarog, Perun, and Dazhbog. Later, Dazhbog was replaced by Svetovid or Veles. Triglav is usually described as a fusion of these gods. Triglav is depicted as a three-headed man sometimes with bands of (gold) blindfolds over his eyes, or a man with three goat heads. Several temples dedicated to Triglav existed near present-day Szczecin, Poland. According to the writing of Ebbo, Triglav's heads were believed to represent sky, earth and the underworld. It was believed that Triglav has three heads because he ruled these three kingdoms and had a golden binding over his eyes and lips so he could not see people's sins nor speak about them. Momir Janković believes that Triglav's heads actually represent three different deities: Svarožić, Siva and Crnobog. As we know, Svarožić is like the Sun the lord of the sky, Siva is the goddess of the earth, and Crnobog is the deity of the underworld. There is another explanation: Triglav's heads signified the three summer months during which this deity ruled. Triglav was also a warrior deity. His symbol was a spear tied to a pole, and this spear was respected by the Slavs from Volyn as Triglav itself. Triglav's animal was a black horse that was used for divination in the temples of this god. The divination in the Triglav temple was performed in a similar way as the divination in the Svetovid temple: a black horse would be allowed to pass between nine spears painted black and white, and the outcome of the divination depended on the moves of the tribal elder and his people. If a horse touched a black-colored spear, that would be interpreted as a bad sign, so the tribe would do nothing, and if a horse touched a white spear, the outcome of the divination would be considered positive. In case the divination was done before going into battle, the tribe would go to war only if Triglav's horse did not touch any spear. Otherwise - the battle would be postponed. What did the temples dedicated to Triglav look like? The temple, which was built near Volin, was located on the highest mountain in the area, and according to the old Slavic custom, it was built of wood. An oak tree was planted next to the temple, and in the temple itself there was a statue of Triglav dressed in clothes that were sometimes worn by a priest, thus taking on the role of a deity. The temple of Szczecin dedicated to Triglav was also located on the mountain. It was founded by the Polish prince Boleslaw, and the temple was expertly decorated with scenes from life that, in the opinion of many visitors, seemed extremely realistic. In the middle of the temple was an oak tree, which has always been sacred to the Slavs, which is why the temple was probably built around an already grown tree (a similar temple existed in Sweden, in Uppsala, and in the center of this temple was a hundred-year-old ash). The statue of Triglav, which was in this temple, wore a scarf that covered his eyes and mouth, and this temple was embroidered with gold. The priests covered Triglav with a headscarf so that they would not see and recognize human sins, which shows the great piety that the Slavs nurtured towards their gods. We only remember Svetovid's priest who was not allowed to breathe so as not to contaminate the air in the temple with his human breath. | x |
