Biography
Grosvenor has been made to do a lot in his life, before coming to Carcosa. The son of a water-flight seer and an arcane clairvoyant, he was born with a natural affiliation for the Sight, and quickly displayed signs of his abilities as he grew. Both his mother and father helped to shape these talents, lending insight, structure and knowledge so that he could explore freely. When he was old enough, he was gifted to another clan, to explore his identity and powers further while in assistance to others.
This was not to last. A raid by a band of plague bandits scattered the clan, and many members were targeted for capture, including Grosvenor. This marked the beginning of a long history of being passed between clans as a tool and trophy, forced into roles useful to each clan against his will. In this time he was a clairvoyant through stars and water, a storyteller when predictions were not enough; a dancer of many specialties, a courtesan and escort, a forward scout, a plaything, bait…
Grosvenor now serves as a seer within the High Priest Laputas court, working alongside her and the others in the clan possessing the gift to discern such things as magical properties in objects or auras, foretelling the consequences of actions (often small), and predicting others intentions so that they can be adequately prepared for. Grosvenor, in particular, is a Haruspex. This means that his most accurate readings come from animal remains, often fresh. He learned this practice during a forceful internment in Plague, before he was ‘liberated’ by Jethann and Vivika and brought back to Carcosa to practice more freely. Although accurate, Grosvenor is not overfond of his own methods and so often attempts less destructive means of prediction.
In Carcosa, precognitive talents are well-respected and oft-sought after, due to the advantage that it provides over situations; being able to enter a negotiation with another clan over an artifact, for example, is tipped in the favor of Carcosa if Carcosa knows ahead of time what the artifact can do (and what the clan knows it can do), what the other clan reasonably expects, what’s going to upset them, and what is going to ensure a satisfied party on both ends. These are not foolproof predictions, but they do allow a significant advantage in most controlled situations.
Grosvenor can usually be found working with Witcher, as Witcher is the clan vulture and therefore is around to both provide for and pick up after any ‘project’ which involves loss of life.
