Pine

The fibered surface of a nature aligned egg began to buckle inward as strands were pulled out from the inside, weakening the shell and allowing a wildclaw hatchling to stick his brown snout through to finally breathe in the pungent air of the Worldedge Wetlands. The hatchling fell onto the muddy earth, pulling his foot out of the sod as he opened his jewel-like green eyes and scanned the area for his caretakers. The buzz of insects and ring of croaking frogs ripped through the air, piercing the hatchling’s eardrums and introducing him to the cacophony of the Wetlands that he would grow to love. The hustle and bustle of the animals of the marsh failed to distract the hatchling from the clear lack of dragons around… He hoisted itself up onto its hind legs like a grown wildclaw, then let out a chirp for attention as he wobbled over and fell back down. Where were his parents?

After being orphaned, Pine was taken in by a nearby pack of wildclaws, and quickly discovered that he had quite the gift for plant magic. With a single, focused stomp, he could cause thorny vines to shoot out of the ground at impressive speeds, posing quite a threat to anyone who dared to duel him. His magical prowess caused him to climb the ranks quite quickly, becoming third ranked in the clan just under the matriarch and her deputy. He didn’t say much, but he was still highly respected. Whenever discussion started about where he came from, since nobody was sure, rumors spread that his lone egg was crafted by the Gladekeeper herself. Of course, rumors are just rumors, and this has never been proven.

In present times, Pine is reserved, only occasionally breaking his silence for a few moments and going back to saying nothing. He will chirp and snarl, but few words ever leave his mouth. The only times he does talk is when he’s with his swamp wolf, whispering commands when they’re hunting or outright just talking to it like it was a dragon. He will use his role to order pairs of dragons to go hunting, but is otherwise not very bossy. He spends his free time crafting bouquets with flowers he sprouts with his magic, and raising butterflies to make the outside of the lair a bit more interesting. One of the murals on the walls of the cave features him, palms glowing green, launching thorny vines from the earth at high velocity at a shadowy wildclaw figure, presumed to be the dragon he dueled for the delta rank in the hierarchy.
