➳ Cursed Potion Master ▲Romantic - Decieiving - Passionate▲ MYERS-BRIGGS PERSONALITY TYPE

Before (by imginate)

The perfect daughter. The perfect fighter. The perfect Mirror.

Everything Ellipse did had to be perfect. Everything she said had to be perfect.

That was something that had been ingrained in her from the moment she was born. She was trained until she was pushed to her very limits, forced to socialize and form connections with dragons her age even when all she wanted was to leave and hide, made to put on a smile and say the right things, made to be perfect.

Her parents bragged about it. “Look at our golden daughter!” they would say. “Look how smart she is! Look how beautiful she is! Isn’t Ellipse so perfect?”

Hah. Right.

They never really cared about her outside of her perfection. Nobody really did.

Like today.

She had just stumbled on a move. That was all. It was just a simple mistake.

Nobody around her thought that way, though.

“Ellipse, I want to talk to you privately,” her instructor called out at the end of the class. The whispers grew around her as she quietly stood up and followed.

She endured the next few minutes of her instructor talking to her about the mistake she made. Giving excuses about her ‘poor behaviour’ and ‘lack of practice’, because apparently she looked like she didn’t have much energy in her movements. By the time she headed out, most of her classmates had already left, although there were a few stragglers.

And all of them were talking about her.

“Isn’t Ellipse supposed to be good at this?”

“Is she okay today?”

“Guess Miss Perfect isn’t perfect at all…”

“Sorry,” she apologized when some of her ‘friends’ came up to her. “I just wasn’t feeling well today. Must’ve been something I ate.”

“It’s fine,” one of them laughed awkwardly. Disdainfully. “You should get some rest, though! Then you won’t do something like that in class again.”

‘…they only like me for what I do to their egos.’

It didn’t get any better when she headed home.

Her oh-so-kind instructor had notified her parents about her stumble in class, and as always, they didn’t tolerate her being anything less than perfect.

After all, if their perfect daughter stopped being perfect, they would have nothing to brag about.

‘I just want to be loved properly,’ Ellipse lowered her head, even as her parents continued to lecture her, talking about how they didn’t raise her to be like this, that she should be more grateful for all that they’ve done for her. ‘Is that… really too much to ask for?’

When she was finally let go, she didn’t waste any more time before heading to her room, closing the door shut, and throwing herself onto her bed.

“I hate them,” she breathed out. “I hate all of them!”

It wasn’t fair. She tried her best everyday, and yet a simple mistake like this wasn’t even tolerated?

Her tears came fast and heavy as she cried into her bed, muffled so her parents wouldn’t come to her room, find her like this — find her in this imperfect version of herself — and scold her even more.

She couldn’t go on like this any longer. She knew she couldn’t. She was a pillar about to crumble, and if she did, there would be no one to pick up her broken pieces. There would be no one who would care about her.

No one who loved her the way she wanted to be loved.

Not as a trophy. But as an individual.

“One day,” her voice darkened, as she raised a claw to grasp at her necklace, eyes burning with hatred even as they brimmed with tears. “One day, I’ll make all of them love me properly. I’ll make all of them care about me.”

And as she stewed in her hatred, unnoticed by her, the necklace around her neck started to glow faintly.

Waiting.

Spiral
The plan was to sneak out in the middle of the night. She was sick and tired of the constant “You are better than this!” and “We didn’t raise you to be this weak!” The collar around Eclipse’s neck barely glowed with a soft, loving light. She quite enjoyed its almost warm glow, a beacon of hope through all the pain. Ever so faintly, it seemed to speak to her telling her she must run away from the horrible dragons that were her parents.

The Wasteland was red and yellow and sickly green. The stench of death constantly hung in the air, surrounding the mirror no matter where she went. Eclipse wondered why she had chosen to come here. But had it truly been her, wanting to come to this rotten place?

There. A spot of silver against an infection-filled background. Eclipse flexed her claws. Occasionally, she would kill a dragon. It was no big deal, right? The voice in her head encouraged it. So it was all good, right?

She got closer to the dragon. Kill him. The voice muttered. He does not care. Kill him. She edged behind a ribcage, hoping her purple-striped scales would camouflage her into the twilight. The Tundra turned towards her, looking directly at her without knowing. But she knew. He had been her friend. A long, long, long time ago.

He does not care. Kill him. The voice urged. No! Eclipse yelled in her mind. He was my friend. His name is Heimdall. He cared! She had many fond memories of her time with him. She didn’t want to kill him. She couldn’t kill him. He cares no more! Kill him! Eclipse started moving towards the dragon, and not of her own will.

And he saw her.

She jumped at him, fur meeting scales. She felt her claws tear flesh in a fight that was not her own. He yelled in pain and surprise, clutching his wound, blood seeping into the ground. Eclipse was expecting him to fight. Some did. They never won. But something flashed in his eyes, and he ran, tearing across the reddish ground. Eclipse stood where he had been, talons edging around her necklace. It seemed to have become tight during the fight, but when she tried to pull it off, her own claws refused her.

After
Ellipse stumbled through the Scarred Wasteland, giggling as she walked. Tears streamed down her face. Her choker glowed crimson red. This way. Ellipse obeyed the necklace, turning in the direction it told her to. I hunger. Find another dragon. NOW! The choker commanded. Ellipse nodded dumbly, lifted her head, and sniffed.

She caught the scent of another dragon and ran towards it. She didn't care that she was leaving Plague territory. She burst across the line and into the Windswept Plateau. She ran towards the scent of dragon, and skidded to a stop. "I can't." She gasped. The choker tightened around her throat. You have to. NOW! The choker hissed.

Ellipse shook her head. "But that's-" She was cut off by the choker tightening again. Ellipse stumbled and coughed up blood. She gasped for air and sobbed. She ran towards the dragon, launching herself into the air. High. Higher. Higher still. Finally, she landed, right on the dragon's shoulder and sunk her teeth into his throat.

The dragon hissed and recoiled, the air becoming disturbed as he writhed. "Ow! What in Sornieth?" He said in a voice that was light, airy, and playful, despite being tight with pain. Ellipse looked at the massive dragon. Annoyed, he plucked her off his neck. "Why in the world did you bite me?" He demanded. Ellipse dangled helplessly. "I'm sorry, Windsinger." She said respectfully. "My necklace... It's cursed. It made me-" She tried to explain, but the choker tightened around her neck again, glowing an even brighter red. She gasped, blood now streaming from her eyes.

Windsinger took one look at her and gasped. "Oh. Cursed necklace, you say? Maybe Flamecaller will know how to get it off." He said sympathetically. He brought Ellipse to the Ashfall Wastes and took her right to Flamecaller. After briefly explaining the situation, Windsinger left Ellipse with Flamecaller.

The goddess immediately summoned her metalworkers and ordered them to remove the necklace from Ellipse. They tried for fifteen days, but to no avail. Everytime they cut or burnt the necklace, it repaired itself. Eventually, they brought Ellipse back to Flamecaller. "Hmm. Well, I'm stumped. It's a fine piece of jewelry, but even my metalworkers can't break it. Is it enchanted, perhaps?" She asked. Ellipse nodded. The necklace had grown so tight that she couldn't talk and could barely breathe.

"Arcanist knows more about magic than I. Maybe he'll be able to do something." Flamecaller mused. She took Ellipse to the Starfall Isles and spoke to Arcanist. "Her necklace won't come off. It's enchanted. And it's strangling her. Are you up for the challenge of removing it?" Flamecaller asked. Arcanist did a loop-de-loop around the Observatory. "Of course! I'm always up for a new challenge!" He said happily. Flamecaller stared at him. "Don't make me regret asking you." She said, then left.

Well, Arcanist tried his best. He researched the necklace in every book. He tried all manner of potions and spells. When Ellipse was hungry, he had his apprentices bring her raw animals, for blood was the only thing the necklace would allow her to consume.

After discovering this, Arcanist made a breakthrough. "I figured out how to find out what the necklace wants!" He said triumphantly. Ellipse looked at him in confusion. "We've been going about this all wrong. We have to ask it what it wants." Arcanist declared. Ellipse would have rolled her eyes, but the pressure in her body was so great at that point that she was afraid her eyes might fall out.

"So, Necklace." Arcanist said to her necklace. "Why are you strangling Ellipse?" He asked. The necklace immediately loosened, and Ellipse gasped for air. Ellipse wanted to be loved. So now any dragon she meets must love her, or die. And if Ellipse doesn't want to kill them, well, I'll make her. I need blood to feed. The necklace hummed. Ellipse told Arcanist what the necklace had said.

Arcanist nodded, jotting down some notes. "How would we go about removing you?" He asked. The necklace hummed. Ellipse must bear one hundred hatchlings. I will attach to the hundredth and use them to feed, and Ellipse will be loved. Ellipse told Arcanist what it had said.

Arcanist nodded wisely, rapidly taking notes. "Let it be so. Ellipse, you shall wander Sornieth. Once you have one hundred hatchlings, the curse will be broken." Arcanist said. Ellipse was in no state to argue.

So, she agreed.
