And from that moment I knew I would do anything. I wanted so sincerely to make you happy, in any way that I could. I wanted to see you smile. I wanted to see the light in your eyes. But I fear it’s all too late. You have pushed me away. There is only silence. I don’t want this tiny spark of hope to die. But I am not in control of this. The next move is yours, or not.
I don’t even know why I feel this way. All I know is that I do. I don’t know what changed. I don’t know what I did wrong. So here we are, silent, separated. I guess you’ve moved on to better things. Prettier things. Less complicated things.
After all, I’ve always been a misunderstood little creature. No one quite knows what to do with me. I guess I should have expected this. Why did I think it could be different? Maybe this is just how it is. I am good, I am beautiful, I am treasured, but only for a moment. Then forgotten. Left in the darkness where I was found. Not quite extraordinary enough. One too many flaws to be a worthwhile stone to set in your crown.
So I’ll remain. As always. But I may not be in the last place you left me. Remember, I have wings. My eyes are still open, and my soul is too old to forget much or forgive little.
