Wet, sweltering heat. It scorched his scales, burned fear into his heart, made him know what it meant to feel powerless. He had no name there, lost on the cavernous trenches of the volcanic ruins. Obsidian glistened, rocks calloused his paws, but Riyasul knew no better life. Beyond the pain, beyond the heat, and beyond the endless nothingness the boy couldn't have known.

But one day, he did. He saw the light-- and no, not the burning flames of the lava plumes, nor the false shine of pyrite or lapis. A gemstone could not have compared to hearing the sounds of voices, or laughter, of excited footsteps winding their ways through the ruins. He hid, but watched, and waited, and waited, and waited, until sleep befell him at last.

He awoke at some point, cold. Cold? Why was it cold... A thin blanket was draped around his shoulders where he leant quietly against a rock. A faces of his future family smiled down at him.

Nowadays, Riyasul is still adapting to life outside the caverns he once called home. The endless Hell is now a dream of the past, and at the Starshine Manor, surrounded my comforts and affection, he is thriving. He has grown smitten with Song, and serves as his beloved servant. Though a wily coatl has pushed himself into his life, he remains ever loyal.
