Childhood

Shaeira was born amidst war and strife. Separated from their family as a hatchling, they roved the Ashfall Wastes, joining caravans on their way to somewhere new. Somewhere safe. During their youth, they encountered many different dragons from all kinds of backgrounds. Each dragon had their own personal ritual to deal with suffering and uncertainty. They picked up their own coping methods by watching them and in doing so, developed the habit of discerning the daily and cultural habits of those they traveled with. If the other dragons were willing, they would ask them deeper questions about these rituals and what they meant to the dragon.

It was discussing the intricacies of rituals used by a dragon from the Starfall Isles that Shaeira learned about the use of ritual in magic. Perhaps due to their heavy interest in the topic, the dragon offered to bring them with them to the Astrolodome, where they could enter into a University to study ritual magic. They agreed immediately, having grown weary of the constant heat of the Ashfall Wastes and ready to find something to do with their life than constantly travel.



College

The college was a new experience for Shaeira. The culture there was completely unlike the tense yet welcoming atmosphere of the caravans where nothing was expected of her. In college, they had to maintain a strict schedule and meet the expectations of their teachers. They did not want to make the dragon who had invited them and allowed them to study there disappointed. So they persevered; the first few months were the most difficult. They hadn't developed any study rituals like their classmates had but with their past experiences, they were able to adopt some of them soon enough.

The ritual classes were the easiest for them. They came naturally as they had a keen intuition for them, able to connect abstract concepts and relate them to the mundane in a way most of their peers scoffed at. It was a magic class, not an anthropology class. Shaeira paid no mind to the opinions of their classmates and instead basked in the praise their professors offered. Their other periphery and extracurricular classes they maintained at a passing level, not holding much interest in them but needing them to continue on in their major.

Teaching

When Shaeira graduated, they joined their ritual professor's research group and continued on in the school as a Graduate student and research assistant. During their time in the research group, they contributed to many studies, making a name for themself. And so, when they decided that they wanted to focus on the anthropological side of rituals, they were offered a grant, formed their own research group, and were assigned to teach an extracurricular class on the subject.

They taught at the college for seven years until, during one fateful research trip to the Tangled Woods, they fell in love. Shaeira had been hosted in the Magpie's Nest while they studied some obscure rituals from myth. The clan's records went very far back and contained interesting information on the topic. While researching some documents in the library, they met a dragon who was researching the mythological side of their topic. Sabrun.

The two of them spent hours at a time holed up in a corner of the library, assisting one another on their research and adding in their own ideas and perspectives. It took two months in Magpie's Nest amidst the Wispwillow Groves for them to decide that they liked it there, both the environment and the company. The clan welcomed their decision to stay and they were both offered teaching positions at the college there.
