MONTAGU
Clan Matriarch Stoic | Elegant | Empathetic She/Her While traversing the dirt paths of this budding territory, you feel a warm breeze dance through the air. It carries a soft melody with it, and as it is swept away, you find yourself being drawn towards the source. Squeezing through a particularly dense patch of bamboo, you come across a guardian softly humming to herself. She seems to be admiring the clouds. Upon noticing your presence, she stops.
"Oh, hello dear! I don't believe we've met. I'm Montagu, caretaker of this clan. It's always a pleasure to have guests."

a spinning wind, one with the weather
Follows a dragon with trinkets and leather A search for a material form To the sky and the guardian, she's torn Dance like the breeze and gather around A beautiful romance and clan to be found borne of a jade statue of a diety worship enough and he will grant you his piety Poem by TidelordVerified |

Humble beginnings... Montagu was never really "born," at least not in the conventional sense. It was as if one day she wasn't, and the very next, she was. In the very early days of her existence she lived not as a dragon, but rather a small, sentient breath of wind. She traveled the Windswept Plateau aimlessly in this state, gaining more and more velocity as she roamed. She quickly grew from a breath to a breeze, and then again to a strong gust, and eventually into a mighty gale. She loved the laughter from dragons as she lifted their kites high above the clouds, or when she blew cheerful melodies through their bells and chimes. More than anything, she loved their stories. She would often swirl around groups of travelers, eagerly listening to their tales of adventure, love, and loss. There was one dragon in particular she loved to visit who, unbeknownst to the both of them, would eventually become her mate. She longed to speak to the guardian, and to tell him of all the wonderful stories she had collected. It took some time for Marquise to notice the warm flurry of wind that greeted him whenever he returned to the Windswept Plateau. After all, flurries of wind aren't exactly uncommon in the Windsinger's domain. However, he began to find this pattern rather peculiar. Despite the strangeness of this trailing wind, he very quickly began to find great comfort in it. Marquise was no stranger when it came to talking to himself or inanimate objects, and thus was quick to personify this strange act of nature. Each time he would return from his travels around Sornieth, he would regale the warm breeze with thrilling new tales. Unfortunately, he was unaware that his audience was actually listening, no matter how hard Montagu tried to tell him. One day, Marquise left the plateau to embark on yet another grand journey. Montagu watched him leave with a heavy heart, desperately wishing she could really, truly greet him when he returned. She softly breezed through the Windswept Plateau, searching for any way she could communicate with the guardian. Amidst her meandering, she came across a lone Windsinger statue, obscured by foliage within the Reedcleft Ascent. She paused for a moment, as the grass beneath her ebbed and flowed. "Windsinger," she pleaded silently, "I long to walk alongside the dragons and beasts, to feel claws against grass and wings against storms. I wish to exchange stories, to taste teas and sing songs. Grant me this, and in return I will amass a mighty clan in your honor!" The area was silent. She stayed put, waiting for any sign that the god heard her. No birds chimed from the trees. No gusts shook the bamboo. Montagu's spirits sank as the minutes passed. It seemed as if her efforts had been futile. She took one final look at the statue, and for a brief second, thought she spotted a faint green glow emanating from it. She waited a moment longer, before ultimately deciding it to be a trick of the light. She turned away, feeling defeated. The instant she turned to leave, a strange and overwhelming sensation of sinking flooded her senses. For the first time in her existence, she felt a physical heaviness. An unrelenting warmth enveloped Montagu, flowing and pulsating all throughout her. Her very form began rapidly changing. Small vortexes swirled out from her in every direction. They swiftly took the form of bones, then muscles. Tiny cyclones danced along the muscles, forming scales along the appendages. With a mighty thud, her body fell upon the cold grass. She laid unmoving for several minutes. Tentatively opening her eyes, she took in her new form. She paused for a moment before stretching out her new limbs as far as they could go. As she did so, a tiny squeal escaped her newly formed mouth. She laughed, immediately startling herself. With her feet firmly on the ground, she slowly lifted her hulking body. Her legs wobbled as she rose, and she let out another giddy chuckle. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice soft and raspy. Montagu took one final look at the statue before extending her new wings, and taking flight. |
