Biography
Quote:
“Hello!,” she says, shaking off some of the dust. “Welcome to the Library. My name is Hypatia, and I recently inherited the title of librarian from Achillea. I will help organize the library, preparing it for future dragons. Here we will keep information about every dragon subspecies found in the Lightweaver's domain and registered with the library".
She continues to explain, “As my predecessor Achillea explained: if the breeds of dragons on Flight Rising were dogs, subspecies would be individual varieties. Subspecies are breed and gene combinations bred with a specific purpose in mind. Often, these have extensive and entertaining lore. While they may not always be the rarest combinations, they are still fun to develop, breed, and collect.”
"Since the library was abandoned for so long, I have been busy rearranging all the books. They are separated into three categories: Abundant, Endangered, and Extinct. Feel free to take a look around, just be careful with the delicate parchment! If you need any help, let one of the librarians know."
Hypatia grins, gesturing toward the books and inviting you to take a look, before diving back into the pile of scrolls.
CLASSIFICATION
Light’s subspecies are organized into three categories: Abundant, Endangered, and Extinct. This is based on how many unrelated breeding pairs are in the population. This is to encourage diversity and prevent genetic dead ends. We want our subspecies to flourish!

Here is how we classify subspecies in Light.

None of these classifications is necessarily permanent. If a subspecies goes from Abundant to Extinct, it can easily be revived if breeding pairs are found. If your subspecies is eligible to move from one category to another, let us know so we can place your article on the correct shelf! (Make sure you update the classification on your article as well!) Likewise, if you obtain a subspecies pair, let the Creator know so they are aware- it’s nice to keep everyone on the same page.
HOW TO PROPOSE OR EDIT A SUBSPECIES
Any Acolight may propose a subspecies for registry in the Library of Light! Please remember though, that the Library of Light is a community project and by registering your subspecies, you are encouraging your peers to own and breed these dragons. Some are going to be making extensive financial investment in order to do so. For this reason, we try to discourage repeated edits to written standards once they are accepted. The Light Flight Subspecies Discussion thread can be used for concept pitching and vetting ideas before posting the finished product here for approval. (This will also keep the Library thread nice and quiet and not disturb Hypatia.)
When you are ready to submit your finished product here, please make use of the General Ping List. Be sure to post your idea directly in the thread, as the article template is reserved for approved concepts.

Remember to include the following!

Approval will be granted after approximately 5-7 days, if no objections arise. Objections may include (but are not limited to): conflict with an existing subspecies, e.g. too much overlap in genetics or color range, or a lack of relevance or connection to Light Flight. Don't worry though, you can always tweak and resubmit.
While we try to discourage approved subspecies from having their standards changed often, it's understandable that these things happen from time to time, especially when new genes, breeds, or colors are released. If you do need to make changes, please ping General Ping List with your changes. Much like when your subspecies was first submitted, it will be reviewed for conflict and approved in a timely manner. After your changes are approved, please ping the Librarians and your subspecies ping list to make sure everyone is on the same page!
Hypatia wrote:
A subspecies standard may only be changed by the original Creator unless the Creator has informed our Librarians that someone else has permission. If you would like to suggest a change to an existing subspecies, you will need to take it up with the Creator in private. |
HOW TO CREATE AN ARTICLE
So, your subspecies was approved! Congratulations! Now you have to take all your notes and format them so we can add it to the library.
- Make a copy of the official Base Template.
Do not alter the Base Template! Go to File and Make a Copy, then name the new document after your subspecies. Do not check the box to share the file with the same people- we’ll get to that later. - Follow the instructions in the template and fill in the new document with the information for your subspecies. Please keep the existing format when you do so. Try to make sure your articles are clear and easily understandable.
- When you are satisfied with your article, you need to make sure the setting is such that the document is viewable with the link so people can see your article! You can do this by clicking the Share icon in the upper right of the screen. (Our Librarians will request access to edit so we can add to the ping list and breeder list as needed. We will NOT alter lore unless requested to do so by the creator.)

Event Hybrids are unique subspecies that have been created to commemorate a significant event. For example, they can represent collaborations between flights or dedications to another flight's assistance with a battle for Dominance. Non-event hybrids can be found among the other articles, with spines that indicate the flights in which they hold registry. |
