Named after the element Sulfur on the Periodic Table of Elements, Sulfur is it's purest state is an odorless non-toxic element, however many compounds smell strongly or affect the sense of smell. Hydrogen Sulfide, a poisonous compound, smells strongly of rotten eggs, and actually affects and suppresses your sense of smell.
