It was because she was quiet, wasn’t it? The way they eyed her warily as if she’d snap or snarl like some rabid creature.

She’d always kept to herself, and perhaps that was when the rumors started. She had arrived to little fanfare, and even less dragons noticing. It seemed, to most, that the room had simply been empty one day, and the next there she was, unpacked and everything as if she’d always been there.

It certainly didn’t help that she looked so different. There were other Obelisks of course, but none stood out quite like she did. Electricity crackled around her constantly from a menacing cloud, her own personal thunderstorm that sparked and popped. An invisible current that sputtered and hissed that kept her separated from the others.

They stayed away from her. Not that Frizz even cared. She walked through life with nary a complaint, raised a brow as people skittered and halted, leaping out of her path as if she’d fry them with just a touch or a look.

Sometimes she heard them talking when they didn’t know she was near, their voices hushed and faces drawn and dark in the dim candlelight. “I hear,” they always start as if it were some great conspiracy theory, “that she can control the weather. Makes great storms appear out of nothing like magic.”

A second voice scoffed, and there was a clink of a glass being set down. “Now that’s crazy. No one can control the weather. ‘Cept maybe…” A pause, a beat of consideration then, “Ya can’t honestly believe she’s the Stormcatcher.”

“Not personally, no. I think we’d know if there were a deity here.” Another moment of silence, heavy and brooding. Then, “But an adept maybe. A disciple. Someone who was close to him.”

Crack! Thunder rumbled in the sky above them, and inside the occupants jumped, cups rattling, while Frizz tilted her head contemplatively. Strange. She watched the drops of rain fall steadily onto the ground, before shrugging and ambling away, steps sedate and steady despite the pouring rain and their voices falling to a dull murmur behind her.

Clan life certainly was interesting, wasn’t it?
