She hadn't been born of noble or royal bloodlines, she'd remembered that much. Eris couldn't remember exactly what class her parents had been, as she'd been lost and put to the streets when she was still a hatchling. Things had been hard while she was trying to grow up but luckily her multitude of eyes aided her in stealing and keeping an eye out for danger. Luck was on her side though because this way of life didn't last long. A chance meeting with the King had lead to him adopting her, as she'd been deemed blessed by the Arcanist himself with her rare eyes. This meant Eris also ended up with an older brother, the king's son Tantris. She adjusted quickly to the spoiled life of a royal and took full advantage of the world of opportunities that had opened up to her. It wasn't long before she was acting like a dragon who was born of a higher class. She was however, a lot more charming than her adoptive brother and some of the snobbier nobles. It was because of this that the two started to dislike each other. The guardian tolerated her, as he claimed she wasn't a threat to him inheriting the throne, while she continued playing the innocent little sister card. It certainly endeared her to others compared to her brother. Even their father began to show favoritism towards her—his dear precious princess. When he died, Eris was announced to be his selected heir. She feigned surprise, only allowing Tantris to see her smug expression. Everyone in the Adamas Realm loved her, subjects celebrated her being her adoptive father's successor. She played up the whole idea she'd do everything in their best interest all the while secretly mocking the guardian who was clearly furious with the sudden change. And she knew he wasn't the only one who disliked the decision for her, a dragon who wasn't from royal blood, to take the throne. It lead to a civil war. Admittedly, while brutal it was brief. Eris had much more support and easily killed or drove out those loyal to Tantris. As for her brother... he was captured and brought in for trial. She would've executed him then and there if it wasn't for her reputation. Instead, she had him banished with the threat that should he try attacking again he'd be killed. With that settled, she was finally allowed to reign over her realm as queen for years. Until Tantris returned. Eris never let her guard down about a potential attack from him but it had still been a surprise to see how prepared he was. His army was still gravely outnumbered but they had skill. Eventually, she was forced to flee and escaped to the Starwood Strand with her remaining commander, Murmur. Knowing things were still unsteady, she named him a king and swore to restore her realm there under the new title: Verum Adamas Realm. |
