Casta

Sink or swim... A saying that means one must either succeed on their own power against nearly insurmountable odds, or fail utterly while trying. As Casta was carried away by the surging underground river, she mused that she really hadn't expected the phrase to be so literal.

That phrase, along with countless other common expressions, had been present in Casta's mind from the moment she was given life. It was all part of the gift granted to her kind by the Earthshaker; he had bestowed his obelisks with all the knowledge he considered essential, sculpting into their still dormant minds an understanding of language, history, science, and various learnable skills. One such skill was, naturally, swimming.

Swimming should have been easy, or so she had thought as she stood on the subterranean shore, mere minutes after her stoneshape had cracked open. As she gazed into the never-still water, she felt a pull. A desire to put her new body and knowledge to the test arose within her. It should have been easy, after all, she already understood every movement she would need to make in order to propel herself through liquid. But as her body hit the water and her limbs flailed against nothing, Casta quickly discovered there was a great difference between knowing something and being able to put that knowledge into practice.
