When the first shed of stone fell from his form, Fidget could only feel the deep ache of pulsing pain. Somewhere along the way into his creation, cracks had formed and the first few eyes that fell upon him did grimace in sympathy. There was little hope that anything would survive the injuries that had made themselves a comfortable nest of stone skin.

Yet, Fidget did emerge with a deepset heave for air and a keening whine. The days and nights that followed eased the ingrained pain; each shed of stone cemented his form in full but it did not touch the carved lines that etched intricate scarring from his snout down shoulder to claw-...

Some days, the red hot pain was bareable and a faint trickle at the back of his thoughts but other days, his hide felt as if feather touches would ignite his scales into a combustion of agony; every breath was an attack against his ribcage that threatened to tear him asunder if he dared to move.

He dared not think 'Why me?' among a sea of others that were strong and capable; the fleeting idea was enough to drive him to despair and he refused to give into his own pains let alone the agony of knowing.
