With an annoyed huff she turned to view her tormentor. “And what do I owe the pleasure?”
She does not doubt that every word she spoke dripped with annoyance, though, it was in her interest that it did. She has an image to maintain after all, even if most of her followers aren’t even here.
Grinning that infuriatingly friendly smile, Xephras replies, “ Oh! My colleagues were interested in meeting you after I mentioned that I summoned you! You weren’t doing anything important were you?”
Augury is certain her eye twitched, with annoyance no doubt, but she doesn’t even get the pleasure of a hex before another dragon speaks up.
“Xephras I asked you to show us your familiar, and, with all due respect, this is a spiral that you’ve just brought into our secret meeting place. Are you aware of what you’ve just done?!” His haughty voice carries through the room.
Uncaringly, said Spiral lazily turns to view the speaker behind her. Unfortunately, he looks exactly like what Augury expected. A portly pearlcatcher sits comfortably on what looks like a silk pillow. Both of his horns are bedazzled with gold and gems, but to her he looks more like a fat eyesore. Honestly! If that clown had walked into her courtroom, she’d have had another soot stain on her walls. Though, she doesn’t doubt that in this world he’s most likely influential, even still she doesn’t even dignify him with a huff of her breath before turning back around.
Obviously annoyed by her flippancy, the pearlcatcher snaps at her. “ And you! I’m appalled by your behaviour! It’s obvious that you’ve intruded upon an important meeting, yet you’ve done nothing to remove yourself! Just who do you think you are?”
Ooh, he’s stupid as well. Nice combo.
“Well, who are you?” Augury huffs.
From the way he seems to freeze in place, it’s obvious that he’s never been asked this. So he’s definitely a politician of some sort, or at least a person in the public eye.
The Pearlcatcher clears his throat awkwardly, obviously recovering from her question,” Ah, well. I am Yurithrese, CEO and founder of Impearlative. Co. The leading producer of magical equipment.”
Yerg, she was right on the treasure. Flipping over, Augury wonders how such a greatshell managed to weasel his way into power.
“Well, Mr. Yurithrese, it’s obvious you’re not the sharpest tool in the shed, aren’t you?” Her tassels jingle softly as she tilts her head, the mocking gesture is not lost on her audience.
“Excuse me?” His voice is serenely calm, but the blood red that seeps up to his ears gives him away.
“For one, unless I’ve suddenly gained super-magic-memory-loss, I was summoned here, was I not?” Yurithrese opens his mouth to argue, but Augury bulldozes on,” Therefore, I would not be able to ‘Intrude on your important meeting’. In fact, it was actually you all that intruded upon my time!”
It seems it doesn’t take much to aggravate the Pearlcatcher unfortunately, as Yurithrese snaps his jaws in anger, “I could care less about your time, this is a meeting of utmost importance! Rid yourself of this place immediately!.”
Flipping onto her back, Augury idly checks her claws, “ And that is my next point, my not at all good sir. Just how would I leave? Because had I not been the correctly summoned dragon, I would have had no clue as to where to go. Unless, you would have transporte me back?”
The silence echoing through the room answers her question.
“Well now that’s just disappointing, isn’t it? From what I'm observing this room is full of highly accomplished magic users, and Yurithrese, yet none of you had the brilliant idea of sending me back? I don’t doubt your abilities, keeping a Banshee’s skull in perfect condition is no small feat. Though I’m still very disappointed, and- ah.”
She was right, her left foreclaw had a small nick in it. With a quick huff of her breath, she sealed up the crack.
”Pardon me, I’m very disappointed that you didn’t think that maybe teleportation would be the best way to keep this meeting a secret, no? It’s what I’ve done at least. Though I doubt that you would know that. Seeing as you’ve already made several bad decisions since I’ve been here.”
Augury supposes that she spoke too much, but they honestly had it coming. It’s most definitely worth it anyways, even with how distressed Xephras is expressing through their contract. The spiral had genuinely forgotten that he’d been there. He blended in well with all the other forgettable dragons in the room that he’d slipped her mind. Not the first time that it had happened though.
Yurithrese on the other hand.
With the tension in the room thick enough to cut with a knife, she doesn’t even blink when Yurithrese lunges at her. Honestly, with how obvious his expressions are she wonders if he wanted her to figure him out. He’s slow too, she notes. From his position on the other side of the table it takes him a second to reach her side of the table, pitiful.
Of course, Augury would be a fool if she let the pearlcatcher touch, much less attack her. It is much easier to dispose of her enemies from a distance after all. And a quick swipe of her claws is all she needs anyways. There’s a familiar flash of orange, and the scent of smoked meat fills her nostrils for all of six seconds before the room returns to regular light levels.
As the other magic users in the room readjust to the light, Augury picks up her shiny new piece of treasure, a positively bedazzled set of horn ornaments. Unlike the eyesore of Yurithrese's, this one actually invested in color theory and made itself look presentable! Speaking of the fat old cod, it seems that the other’s seem to be looking for him. Hilarious, but she has no more business here.
She sincerely hopes they stop looking for him soon, but she wouldn’t care either way.
