Biography

Uh-oh, looks like this aspiring fashionista wandered a little too far from her home lair (swordlily, #574135), and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to her home lair, to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful! Please trade this dragon on traveling dragon threads as opposed to the auction house!

Satin's family eagerly awaits her return, and she plans on eventually coming home. It would be awesome if someone sent her back to swordlily (#574135) after she's had lots of adventures!

Satin; The Aspiring Designer
_______oooooooooo_______
EXGoTHI.png c4a5xZL.png

Satin had always been mesmerized by the work of a fashion designer, and dreamed of creating apparel at the local boutique. There was just one problem - Kasinda, the shopkeeper, couldn't stand hatchlings. She would never accept a protege. It seemed like there was no way to win Kasinda over, but the bustling travelers passing through the Aeole Inn gave Satin an idea... she would set off on a journey.

She would travel all across the world, and explore all the fashion senses of the different dragons that lived in it. The apparel they wore, the amazing looks they made, and the materials they used. And once she came back home with her impressive newfound design knowledge, Kasinda would have to take her on!

...Right?

Satin found herself following a red imperial far into the Earthshaker's realm. Ielith seemed not to mind the company, even sharing some of his food with her as they made their way to Cragenmire Cavern. Satin's first impression of the place was a resounding yikes. Dragons wearing tattered, old satchels and rusted metal plates was not what she envisioned for her first stop. Though a few dragons had decent outfits, Satin just had to pull aside the ridiculous nocturne who was wearing a wolf pelt (with the head??) as a makeshift cape.

Aerona, Satin soon learned she was called, was surprisingly patient with her frustration over the barbaric garb she had on, explaining that it kept the sun off her scales and, more importantly, her scientific instruments. Satin hadn't really thought about the usefulness of an outfit before, outside of high-lighting the scales of the dragon who wore it. Aerona was well-versed in many things, Satin learned, especially these strange magical stones that she kept trying to get her to touch. No, she didn't touch them. But she kind of wanted to after a while.

When the time came for Satin to leave, Aerona saw her off with her mate Alastrom. Much to Satin's dismay, Aerona gifted her, too, a wolf cape. Though she appreciated the thought, she was pretty sure she'd never wear the unruly thing. At least it was a good hoard starter. Perhaps she could scrounge up more clothes from the people she visited. Kasinda would have to acknowledge her then, right? Mind made up, Satin took off, grateful to be leaving the wide, open expanses, but also glad to have stopped there and learned from the odd dragons that called Cragenmire Cavern home.

Satin found herself following an Imperial named Dauvervvin back to his lair. He seemed like a laid-back, old, kinda lazy dragon. He didn't like her company, but she stuck around anyway. However, she soon learned that he was like the only dragon in his clan that was like that. Everyone else in the Lumnicomb -- as it was called -- was incredibly kind.

She eventually stumbled upon a group of racers. Warden,Rosalyn, Bloodswamp, ClawHammer, and Droudis, who all lived together in a single hex. They were a group of friends who were incredibly close and always stuck by each other's side. They all seemed a bit juvenile, and while they were older than Satin, they were all pretty young. They all had their own interests, but their common interest was racing. Despite how unbecoming and dirty Satin had heard racing was like, she found this kind of interesting. They loved to weave through the trees and ride on air currents, each pushing the rest to get faster. They were mesmerizing to watch. Although their clothes could look better.

Things were interesting with the group. Satin was intrigued when she was invited to race with them. In time, she started to become like part of the group, although she was still a little too young to beat any of them, and she didn't like that the races usually wound up in her being covered in some sort of dirt or grime.

She was later gifted a piece of apparel. Droudis explained that it would help her weave through the trees, and she didn't understand how until she was convinced to wear it during one of their races. It made her wings lock up, and she nearly fell five wingbeats out of the sky, but it did help. Satin discovered yet another purpose for apparel.

When the time came for Satin to leave again, she had two pieces of fashion. She was a bit disappointed that they were both very rugged, and she hoped that her next adventures would include something more... shiny.

Though Satin was eager to visit someplace more refined, she decided to head back to Cragenmire Cavern. She wasn't old enough to fit the wolf cape Aerona had gotten her, but she wanted to show off her new wing guards. Maybe she could stay there until she grew old enough to travel farther. Aerona was, of course, happy to see her, and inquired about where she'd gone to and what it was like. Satin recounted the racers she met and the gear they'd given her, to which Aerona praised her. It was a little embarrassing, to be honest, but Satin felt weirdly proud when Aerona praised her.

This time, Satin met some new travelers who'd arrived in her absence. The disgruntled electrician Spark wasn't exactly her cup of tea, but she found herself really enjoying listening to Author as he recounted his own tales. These stories, some bordering on fantasy and others quietly realistic, reinvigorated Satin's drive to explore.

She may be small now, but soon enough she'd be on her way and visiting each realm. When she was done with that, perhaps a return home was in order? She still wanted Kasinda to apprentice her, and while her goal had somewhat changed, she still wanted to go home someday. But, until that day came, Satin would have fun exploring all of Sornieth - and bringing back some clothes as a souvenir.

During her second stay in the tunnels, the construction team got a lot done. An underground city (well, partially underground at any rate) was built, with five districts that each housed different kinds of dragons. Satin was glad to be directed to the newly built Sleepy Sphinx Inn for lodging. No more sleeping on the ground and, more importantly, no more leaving her clothing on the ground. She didn't realize how much she missed a proper bed until she went to sleep that night, crashing almost immediately.

The drastic shift in the Cragenmire Cavern Clan was a bit hard to get used to for her, but now that they had a centralized home instead of a bunch of old, dingy tunnels, Satin couldn't help but think it would be much easier to navigate now as opposed to before. It was too bad that Aerona and Alastrom moved to the Cog District, though. It was a pain to see them from the inn, but Satin was sure to keep in touch with the two as she pondered where she'd like to visit next. Cragenmire City was great and all, but there were other places to see. Before she left, Alastrom gifted her red healer's vestments to go with her wing guard. It wasn't as shiny as she was expecting, but it would have to do for now.

Satin decided that for her next stop, she would visit the water territories. From what she'd heard about them, they were good at making fine silks and garments that were both beautiful and practical for everyday use. However, during the night she lost her way and ended up in the middle of the Tangled Wood.

She'd heard of the dangers encountered in the woods at night, so by day she slept in the very tops of the trees, and at night she flew over them, following the bright lights from the Wispwillow Grove and hoping a clan there would be willing to help her.

After several days of traveling, she came to the lit clearing. The stories hadn't been wrong, it really was beautiful in its own way. She asked around, and eventually met a young fae named Gazelle who said they'd be willing to let her stay for as long as she liked. She accepted and followed the fae to the edge of the Wispwillow Grove, on an island off the coast.

She was given a room in their small inn and stayed there for quite a while. She had an amazing time talking with the clan's resident seamstress, Eldbers. She was eager and willing to share her knowledge. Not many in the clan had nice outfits as apparel was hard to come by, but the plans the young wildclaw had made for some of them were quite beautiful. Eldbers let Satin help with her work, and the skydancer managed to learn a lot. After a long and enjoyable stay, Satin packed her things and left in search of more adventure. As a parting gift, Eldbers gave her a lace collar that Satin still treasures today.
