.. He'd been a boy-king once, draped with jewels and gold and silk. He'd presided over that appalling throne till the day a banescale slammed to the ground in front of him, squashing an advisor under one cruel talon, and looked at him with her too-many eyes, and told him, "Come."

He'd burned the whole court to the ground that day. They wonder - they wonder of the madness that overtook, that turned the gentle boy-king into a raging menace, wreaking destruction upon everything he'd ever known.

But the secret was that it'd been there the whole time. He was just waiting. Waiting for that great and terrible call to purpose, the greater being. He'd known there was something greater out there. The jewels, the gold, the silk, it had all been a mask for the feral creature within.
