Petiolare was from a large and well celebrated clutch. The largest of their family at the time, which was still small and fragile then, the Clan took this nest as a good omen. Three of his siblings went on to other Clans, heeding their own personal Search. Petiolare remained with his brother Chester. The two could not have been more different in manner. Petiolare was serious and hardworking, and found his calling in the defence and protection of others, while Chester was extremely laid back, bordering on lazy, and had not ever felt a call towards anything that wasn't merely a warm spot to sleep. Nevertheless, the brothers were close and did not have any animosity towards one another. The larger he grew, the more frustrated Petiolare became. He wished to protect the weak and vulnerable, but his family still refused to allow him to train and grow stronger. He thought his grandmother Conch would understand, being a Guardian with her own desire to protect, but it was her family she wished to protect most of all so he didn't have any luck appealing to her. He had to content himself with using his size and appearance to defend others. Most of the time this succeeded. He guided lost travellers in the Viridian Labyrinth, and all they usually needed was a reassuring presence and knowledgable guide. He met his mate, Russet, this way, although she took offence at his offer to guide her. She was an expert at planning expeditions, she was most certainly not lost. She was a capable, independent dragon just like he wished to be. He accompanied her, and learnt from her, until her route led her out of the forest. She wanted them to continue travelling together, but he found he could not bring himself to leave his home. It made him feel as if he would be leaving the clan undefended, even though he was not much protection, and they would be fine without him. For weeks Petiolare was then frustrated at himself for this missed opportunity. He sulked so bitterly that even Chester was concerned. To Chester's relief, Russet returned a few months later with stories of her travels and a vow to join the Meristema Clan if Petiolare would not leave. It took a long time, but Conch did eventually allow him to train under her guidance. Petiolare flourished into the dragon he had always desired to be, and had no concern for any scratches or scrapes he sustained in battle. He was as sensible as always, and never reckless, to Conch's relief and satisfaction. It had been unspoken between them, but Russet and Petiolare had not attempted make a nest after their first. They produced two healthy children, a boy and a girl. The former was now living as a Tundra in the Colonnades of Antiquity, with a number of paramours and numerous children of his own. Their daughter however... She had been quiet but sturdy, and claimed she wanted to find a name for herself, literally. They respected her wishes, and had only pet names for her. As a Guardian himself, Petiolare knew the Search could take effect in many strange ways. She was with them until she reached adulthood, and then started her journey in the direction of the Windswept Plateau. She was never heard from again. Now enough time had passed that her loss wasn't felt so sharply, and Petiolare had begun to train after Conch finally agreed to take him under her wing, he broached the subject of nesting with Russet once more. At first she declined. Russet was a dragon that kept her emotions below the surface, and seldom discussed them. After weeks of thinking about it now that the idea had been placed in her head, she accepted Petiolare's request. This time there were three eggs, and Petiolare was certain he would be able to protect them now. Clan page comment @OrbWeaver said: I peeped your lair and I love how it's themed and arranged. What lovely dragons! Left a like on Petiolare. He looks like a walking shrubbery and I love him. |
