Thedas lore: Lexien is an elven mage, born in Kirkwall to loving but impoverished parents. When he came into his magic as a child, His mother turned to the Templars for help, and they told her to relinquish him to the Circle. They assured her he would be safe, and would have a better life than his parents could provide.

But in truth, the Circle is a prison, and the Templars its jailors. Lex and the other mages there were badly mistreated. His magical talent was stifled and demonized. He was cut off from his elven heritage, forced to attend the humans' Chantry and worship their god.

But in his dreams, he learned forbidden magics from vengeful spirits. Eventually, he escaped the Circle together with a sympathetic young Templar recruit named Yves.

The pair joined with a group of mercenaries and honed their skills for the next several years. Lex rediscovered his lost heritage along the way. He also fell in love with the former Templar, and they stayed together until their company was attacked by hostile Chevaliers. Yves was captured, and eventually executed in an Orlesian prison-- or so Lex believes.

His anger towards the Templar and the Chantry never waned. When the Mage Rebellion broke out, Lex's mercenary band joined the fight against the Templars. Lex was still grieving and threw himself into the fight against the Templars.

A couple of years have passed, and the war rages on. He has become one of the Rebellion's most well-known battlemages, infamous and feared among the Templars. He has also found comfort in the arms of an an old friend, though he still grieves for his first love.

There has been discussion of peace talks among the Rebellion's leadership. Lex remains wary, but the storm on the horizon is even bigger than he knows.
